Sunday June 8th was tournament day for Suffolk Marine Anglers. The weather could have not of been more perfect with light wind and sunshine all day. 40 boats throttled up out of the hole at the shot gun start and the 6th annual striped bass competition was underway.
News 12's Sean Bergin was onboard the committee boat covering the event and shooting his weekly feature "Road Trip" which is aired on Tuesdays. He also helped out as the guest weigh master.
Most boats fished the ocean working the schools of bunker. A few fish were caught in the morning but the action really heated after lunchtime. This tournament may hold the recorded for most big fish in a one day competition. There were eight places, the top Bass was weighed in by Mark Wrobleski just shy of 50 pounds at 49.9 pounds. The last placing Striper was 34.95 pounds.
Thousands of Dollars was raised for Hospice Care Network and Miller’s Ale House of Deer Park donated the hot food and cold drinks and without them this tournament could have never evolved to what it is today.
Thanks to all the sponsors for their support and help and making this even a great spring Tradition.
