Herniated Disc is pushing on nerve, Dr. says don't lay around try to keep moving along with PT so we headed out again. Found a huge pod right away holding big fish. We had non stop action for 2 hours, all fish were between 30 to 49.4lbs. Left them biting, we were all tired. My buddy Rob Hudson had the 49.4 fish his biggest to date..

Big Bass on Bunker Pods Fire Island

I fished today with Mark Epstein and Anthony DeBlasio out of Saltaire.

We had a great day with lots of bass up to 38 pounds on the bunker pods keeping a couple for table fare.

It wasn't slam dunk fishing and you had to work hard, travel a lot and read the pods the right way and fish them with fineness. The fish were picky but could not resist the right presentation.

Another great day on the water with a great crew.

Fishing Report
Been laid up with a herniated disc in my back but had to get out today. My son Luke and I headed out in search of some big fish on the pods. I gave him a light spinning setup and told him to snag a few bunker for the well. After snagging a few he then connected with a 44lb fish on that small penn battle 5000. Well after a long battle he got it boat side and we boated it. Fish was spent from the fight so we could not revive it. He quickly switched to a heavier outfit! We then had a blast catching and releasing about 10 fish 28lbs and up. Great day he will remember for a long time! Rich Figlia..

Big Bass on Bunker Pods Fire Island

I fished with Kevin Ryan and his friend Scott. We had a super day of bass fishing with about 20 fish to 48 pounds on the bunker pods.

The lousy weather report never happened and it turned out to be a perfect weather day. We kept couple of fish for the table and released all others including the 48 pound beauty.

A really great day of fishing Fire Island with an excellent crew.

I fished today with Chris Kenneke.

We had a great time with big bass to 40 pounds and a few bluefish on the bunker pods. All the fish were big today. The weather cooperated and it turned out to be a fantastic day on the water.

George and I left for the bunker schools east of Fire Island inlet with my go-pro in hand. It was not our intention to record the Bass slaughter of spring 2014 but to capture friends and family at large. We both agreed to to not record the capture and release of fish but try to get something more unusual. Well my efforts paid off. Note I spot the whale off in the distance and I am able to capture it's first jump. As you watch, the whale circles the white boat and porpoises around now to my luck watch as it pushes bunker I am able to get a close up of the jump. For me better than a 40 pounder.

Today I fished with Bob Himmelreich and his crew of great kids William, Philip and Spencer out of Seaview.

We had a blast catching about 20 big striped bass.

The kids were excellent anglers and did a great job of fighting these fish.

In the photo is Philip fighting a 35 pound fish on a 9 food spinning outfit and putting a hurt on the fish. Excellent technique.

A great sight this morning with porpoises, whales and thresher sharks all feasting on the bunker pods.

William with another nice fish.

I didn't get a photo of Bob or Spencer but they also had great fish and Spencer was a real help back at the dock assisting me with cleaning the fish we kept.

There will be lots of happy people back at the beach tonight all feasting on fresh striped bass.

I fished today out of Saltaire with Josh, Jake and John. We beat up on the big bass on the bunker pods with fish to 36 pounds on a short half day trip. The fishing was non stop today and we left them biting. This is it, the bite is on and now is the time to hook up for a day of fishing on the "Skimmer". Photos to follow.
