Another great day on the water.

I fished today with Captain Rich Santos and we had a good time with some big flounder and striped bass. We worked the afternoon outgoing tide and had flounder to just under 3 pounds. while fishing my rod screamed out and I fought the fish on very light flounder gear and landed a 27 inch striper. Just short of keeping but great to see the stripes on the boat again. The flounder were aggressive and a big one came to the net. It was definitely chilly out there today but fun.

The secret is out, big deep diving plugs catch tuna fish. Keep in mind you may need to modify the hooks and split rings to accommodate bigger fish.

Turns out it was Indian Island that was burning basically out of control. From what I heard a house to the north of the island had a shed go on fire and it jumped the canal and started the fire on the island. I also heard that several houses on the north side of the fire were also involved. All the fire boats from the surrounding areas responded and got it under control but I think the wind helped as it switched from north to south so the fire burned back over what was already burned. It was impressive and I give credit to the marine fire fighters.
I fished today with Captain Rich Santos on my boat "Skimmer". The boat is all ready to go for the 2016 season with a brand new Mercury OptiMax engine and some new refinements and today was my first day of fishing. Rich and I worked the West Channel area on outgoing tide and came home with a limit of fish and even a couple of short throwbacks. It was good to see smaller fish which means the flounder are breeding and producing some youngsters. Another boat fishing near us also had a limit of 8 fish for four anglers. It is not hot fishing but good enough to be fun and worth doing. The water is clean and it was a beautiful day on the water after a cold spring. Its great to be back on the bay and doing what I love. I am getting a lot of bookings for the spring bass run so if you want to fish I suggest getting a day set up in my book while there are still a few prime dates remaining. There is a lot of bait in the bay and I think we will see a good run of weakfish starting in early May so if you want to give that a go then email me at [email protected] to set a date. I just got a few new Penn spinning outfits (Penn Battle II 7 foot graphite rods and 4000 series reels) that are perfect for weakfishing with both plugs and jigs. Fluke season opens on May 15 and I think this will also be a great season for Long Island's favorite fish. Another great day on the water with an excellent crew. Captain Al Lorenzetti I had the opportunity to chat with Jose twice in my life, he is as genuine in person off camera as he was on his TVshow. The last great fishing show, none better
