We had a great time with lots of good food and refreshments, comradeship and fun. We also had a great hunt with some quality migratory geese, brant and puddle ducks.
A great time was had by all.

On the last weekend of the waterfowl season I teamed up with Rich Santos, Jim Conte, Pete Johnston and Jax for a three day hunt on one of the islands in the Great South Bay. We had a great time with lots of good food and refreshments, comradeship and fun. We also had a great hunt with some quality migratory geese, brant and puddle ducks. A great time was had by all. SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY ALA THERESA AND DAVE AT THEIR HOME ON THE GOLF COURSE NEAR MOBILE ALABAMA1/17/2017 We left Louisiana on New Years Day and headed to Rich Santos's sisters house in a little town near Mobile Alabama. She and her husband Dave live in a very secluded and quiet home on a beautiful golf course in the woods. They made us comfortable and had fun messing with Jax wonder dog. We had cocktails and then Theresa made some great food. We had the greatest time with she and Dave. We sipped some scotch and ate great food Alabama style. The next morning we headed out behind the big storm and headed to the Hyatt Regency in Greenville South Carolina. Thank you Theresa and Dave for a great time! Captain Al Lorenzetti We left camp on Sunday and checked in at the Marriott Courtyard in Houma which I highly recommend if you ever travel there. We cleaned up and headed over to Kevin and Kayla's home for an evening barbecue. Hunter Poiencot and his pal Cody joined us and we had a great feast of locally made special sausages and other goodies. It was a fun time and was special. Kevin did the cooking and is was the most delicious sausage I have ever had. The next day we will pick up Jax at Kevin's home as he was very gracious in keeping him rather than to deal with him in the hotel. Captain Al Lorenzetti On day four we did a bunch of things. We hunted in the morning under tough low water conditions. I was hunting with Nick Santos and we got pretty much stranded. Nick could make it out with the pirro but not with me and the decoys and my bag and gun. We were totally gounded in mud. The water is 5 inches deep but the mud is two feet deep. You fall out of the pirro and you can't get back in because you are stuck in mud so deep you can't get up and out. I had a brilliant thought of letting Nick row out and I would walk across the salt meadows for about a hundred yards but started out and fell into mud holes and had to use my gun to lay across the hammocks to lift myself out of the mud. I made it all of 20 yards and called to Nick to let him know that I had to be rescued. Sure enough Kevin came to save me in the big pirro and we made it back to Benji and got out of there. We rescued a fisherman high and dry and then made it back to camp. We then had a great fish fry and fell asleep after swapping great stories of our adventures. Very interesting day. We saw it all 80 degrees to 40 degrees in a day, crazy wind, crazy ducks, ravenous fish, awesome guns which by the way when you see it almost knocked me on my butt, great people and the wilds of south Louisiana. What a great trip. Captain Al Lorenzetti
SOUTHERN LOUISIANA EXTREMELY LOCAL FOOD SPECIALTIES PICKLED QUAIL EGGS HOT OR MILD BY KEVIN ONCALE1/9/2017 Kevin Onclae is one of the most diversified sportsman I have ever met. He hunts birds but loves birds. Hard for most people to figure out but I am the same. He keeps a lot of quail in pens at his residence and he and his wife Kayla have developed a small business selling quail eggs bottled and preserved for consumption in either a mild or somewhat spicy sauce for sale. All are hand worked and vacuumed sealed in mason jars and ready to be shipped anywhere in the USA. You can't believe how good they are!
Below is a shot of how they look as delivered. I would recommend getting a case of a dozen. I like the spicy but they are not too hot. A couple of halapenos onions etc. but awesome. You will not believe how good they are! Captain Al Lorenzetti Kevin is the master of the Bayou. He knows little spots where fish hide. He brought us to a little spot where the water was no more than 3 feet deep. We cast out hooks adorned with just little pieces of shrimp that he had caught. It was game on from the first cast. What fun! Kevin is a master of the local waters. He brought us to a great little spot where the fish were just stacked up. I hooked into this real nice redfish on light tackle and it was just as much fun as catching a 40 pound bass back home. What a great time. Please excuse the little explective audio. This fish was tough. Captain Al Day two was a blast. We hunted in the morning and bagged some ducks and then we went fishing before the front blow in. Caught some great fish in Kevin's honey hole. The front brought winds over 40 mph and temperatures dropped 40 degrees. The crab boil was the highlight of the day. Benji and Hunter know how to do it right. Captain Al Lorenzetti Day two and we had a great time. Good duck hunting in the morning and fishing in the afternoon after lots of good big breakfast food. Jax did his thing diving in the Louisiana mud for ducks and oysters. Nutria rats took a beating by Captain Rich. Justin Hergert who was Jax's trainer was with us for the hunt. He is the best trainer of dogs probably in the entire country. He got to hunt over the dog he trained two years ago and had Jax live in his home until Rich and I got there to pick him up. Jax remembered Justin and they hit it off together. Great reunion! Benji had a class 3 license for firearms and an outdoor establishment that sells firearms. He instructed us in the handling and use of full automatic firearms. We all got to shoot these awesome guns and it was fun. We had a great day bagging a bunch of ducks and a pile of fish. It doesn't get any better thanks to our friends in Houma. We will be back there next year for sure ya'll. Captain Al Lorenzetti |
