7/29/2014 Today I fished with Doug Modico and his son Nate out of Saltaire. We had a fun and productive day of fishing for fluke around Fire Island Inlet. We caught a bunch of fish and 4 keepers to 5 pounds. Berkley Gulp was the hot bait today and it was a great trip. Nate and Doug really did a number on the fish. Another great day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti I fished today with Carl Curcio and his friend Bill. We worked the pods and then found some fish. We boated two at 26 and 31 pounds and dropped two others. I was not expecting much action but there are still some bass around our area. We had a real big one well over 40 pounds swim up to the boat in the middle of a big bunker pod but never did connect with that fish. Now Carl can have his striped bass barbecue. A beautiful day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti I fished today with Kevin Callahan and his pal Stephen, We worked all the inside spots for fluke and had an excellent day catching 7 keepers and a bunch of shorts. It was pretty consistent fishing when we found a good spot free of slip gut and holding some fish. The gulp mantis shrimp was the hot bait today. Another great day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/8 2014 Fishing for fluke in the bay has been pretty good on the flood tide and the first of the ebb. I fished with Greg Sandler, his sister Aviva and her children Jack and Molly, We had fun and caught a lot of fluke including a few keepers. It was a good day on the water with good people that have been fishing with me for many years. Another great day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti Antonio and I loaded the boat Monday night and left the dock 0400 hrs Tuesday on the hunt for bluefin and a mako. Found dolphins and a 71.4 / 69.9 degree break and got on the troll
After 30 minutes port rigger snaps and the reel starts singing. A quick fight and we got a mahi in the box. After 2 more hours we switched to sharkin. An hour later a mako picks up the short bait jumps and spits the hook. Around 1 o'clock deep bait gets hit and hit heavy. I set the hook and put Antonio on the wheel. Forward backwards round and round I gained line inch by inch and the shark took it by 50-60 yard runs. Captain Antonio takes us up wind and I gain line and see the swivel. I quickly grabbed the leader with a gloved hand Antonio snaps on the fish tape and we have a 10' tiger. |
