Got the word that it broke wide open today east in the bay with big bluefish eating top water and swimming plugs. Light tackle action and awesome. I will be hitting it every fishable day. If you want to get in on it drop me an email captal@skimmeroutdoors.com. We can do it light spin tackle, fly or bait-cast.

While down in Pine Island Florida often take our dogs to picnic island which is just off the southern tip of Pine Island. On this visit we met Caleb who is on a fund raising missing to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Caleb is paddling and sailing his way through the great loop. Before leaving the island we loaded him up with ice and a few cold beers. We will try to meet him in NYC during the summer for a cold one. Follow him online and make a donation. Tim pages.teamintraining.org/sd/yourway16/cbartleyski www.castawaycottagefl.com/ went out for afternoon trip, wind howling..managed 5 fish, kept 2 nice ones for table... Prob my favorite fish next to Weakfish to catch!
Rich Figlia Fire Island & Great South Bay Fishing Forecast April 14th 15th and 16th w/ Captain Al Lorenzetti4/13/2017 FIRST FISHING TRIP FOR SKIMMER FOR 2017 FLOUNDER AND STRIPED BASS (well tiny striped bass)4/11/2017 Today was such a nice day that I decided to take a short trip starting at noon and ending by 3 pm.
It was worth while as I caught two flounder and one small striped bass and had a great time doing it. The flounder were typical 13 to 14 inch fish and the striped bass was probably the smallest I have ever caught measuring just 13 inches. It is nice to see small fish entering into the population. I hope this bodes well for the future of this great fish. No tackle shops had worms today so I just fished with left over salted clam strips from last year. They seem to work very well. Maybe we should all just use clam for a couple of years to let the worm diggers in Maine know we don't really need them when they want a dollar a worm. Highway Robbery we used to call it. Just me being me. I would rather pull up to a marsh and dig bank mussels and fish with that. Pure and simple and it works very well. Anyway, the start of another season and I am stoked. The water is clean and things look good for another great season. I am booking charters now and still have a bunch of prime dates available so don't wait too long to get hooked up with a date to fish. The big bass should be here by mid to late May and last right through mid July. Big bluefish on light tackle will start in a week or two and I will be doing some mixed bag days with plugging for big blues and flounder fishing. Captain Al Lorenzetti Location
GSB Fishing Report After a little rest after a great duck season my son Luke and I heading out for some flounder. We got our limit in some windy conditions. Great to have the first fish hit the deck! Rich Figlia Its Spring time and the new season is upon us. I am getting some dates set in my calendar and want to put it out there that if you want a prime date for striped bass, seabass, blackfish or fluke fishing then you should drop me an email and let me know what you want to do. Log on to the Charter Captain Al page on Skimmeroutdoors.com to see all you need to set up a charter. Last year Kevin Ryan had two striped bass over 50 pounds in 20 minutes fishing the same pod of bunker. That is the way it goes. If you are lucky then you land on the pod or find the structure in the inlet that is holding the big body of fish. I can do that for you like nobody else.. The inshore and near shore fluke fishing in July and August is also a lot of fun and challenging. We had fish up to 10 pounds last year inside the inlet. I have some new innovations this season that will really produce some giant fish. I always mix up the day with other species and we have fun with other species like seabass, blowfish, porgies, blackfish bluefish etc.. In May the giant bluefish invade the bay and I set up with light spin or bait casting outfits using artificials in sheltered back bay areas for the greatest fun with light tackle. This is some fun and great for young kids as it is sheltered and the action is incredible! Always easy leaving Babylon or Fire Island. Click Here and lets go fishing! |
