25 pound Bull Mahi caught in Fire Island Inlet. Photo sent in by Mike Adamo. Still waiting for more details.
8-28-2016 Update The fish was caught in the deep hole in the inlet. They thought they had a big bass on then the big bull mahi starting jumping. So apparently there are mahi on the bunker schools in and outside the inlet. the fun of fishing late summer. I fished with Scott, Ava, Tyler and Nancy today out of Seaview. We had a great time doing the inshore rodeo with a great mixed bag of fine fish. We caught a limit of weakfish to 6 pounds, a couple of good eating size bluefish and fluke to 5 pounds. Nancy was high hook today but everyone caught fish and had a ball. Ava was really into the fish helping me fillet them and handling all the cut up fish.
Another excellent day on the water with an excellent crew. Captain Al Lorenzetti I fished today with Brian and Kevin and we had fun catching a limit of weakfish and fluke to 5 pounds. The storms held off and weather stayed nice long enough to get the half day trip done.
Another great day on the water with a great crew. Captain Al Lorenetti Today I fished with Warren, Jim and Bailey. We had a good time catching a few keeper fluke and a couple of weakfish. It wasn't hot fishing but enough to keep it going. We all had a good time.
Another excellent day on the water with a great crew. Captain Al Lorenzetti Today was a special day. A year ago Ted Nagengast and his wife who run the day camp at the Fire Island community of Saltaire asked me to do a little seminar for the kids who attend the day camp. The year went by and today was the event as we planned. Captain Rich Santos and Tim C. Smith joined me to help and take photos. All these photos were taken by Tim and I think it captures the flavor of the event. Before we landed at Saltaire, we fished a little while and had some fun catching some nice seabass, weakfish and bluefish and I included a few photos of those fish.
We got to Saltaire and Ted was ready to get it going. He previously had the kids make up bamboo poles and had spearing ready to bait them up. Ted introduced us and Rich and I gave a little pep talk including some background information about baby bluefish otherwise known as "snappers." We talked about safety and how to bait hooks and answered some questions the kids had and then we fished. We had two groups for an hour each. The first group were the 10 to 12 year old and the second group were the 8 to 10 year old. What a great bunch of kids and the camp assistant crew were excellent in keeping it organized and under control. There were a good number of snappers caught and a few small seabass. It was such a fun time and I don't know if we or the kids had the best time. Rich and I are in for it again next year for sure and I am already looking forward to it. Another most excellent day on the water with an excellent crew and some great kids and camp leaders and staff at Saltaire, Fire Island, New York. Captain Al Lorenzetti |
