We then headed to Louisiana to the Marriott Courtyard in Houma. The weather turned so bad that we had to hunker down at the Hotel until the tornado warnings and wind settled down. Lost one day at the camp but got there on Friday 12/28. The weather was very bad all week with rain and fog but always a few hours of calm and fishable and huntable weather.
We had awesome meals cooked by Kevin Oncale and Benji Poincott. Fish frys and crab boils.
Nick Santos flew down from Alaska and joined us for the Louisiana part of the trip. Nick and I hunted three mornings and bagged some ducks but it was slow as the weather was so warm that most of the ducks stayed north. We had fun and enjoyed the hunt.
The fishing was off the hook with Kevin taking us to some of his honey holes. Two hours of fishing and an bushel of fish if not more.
Had the first opportunity to to run with shallow draft mud boats. Hunter Poincott took me on a run with his boat which is incredible. It will run through the water hyacinths mud and whatever. It never stops and will run in literally no water. I'm considering purchasing one of these boats for duck hunting here in the back bays. May try to get a loaner to use next season. Awesome boats!
Made it home in one piece but wanting to do it again!
