Today was the maiden voyage for the Skimmer. I fished with Ray Bartlett and we did some exploring.
I got a report of mackerel outside of Fire Island Inlet and supposedly a big bluefin was taken in the bait schools. I investigated and didn't see much. I marked a big school of bait on the bottom and I think they were bunker. We tried jigging on small patches of bait but no results.
We then worked over some flounder spots and had some success.
We limited out with four fish just average size but they were alive and the first fish on the boat this season. Clam Pond area was best for us. Here are my two beauties and they will make a nice meal tomorrow. Ray chose to let me keep the catch so I have enough for a nice meal of Great South Bay flounder. Can't wait.
A nice start to the new season.
