Today I fished with Dan Priest and his friends Marcia and Roberto out of Dunewood.

We had a great day catching 4 striped bass up to 35 pounds.

We found some bait and hit a couple of hot spots that I fish and had a lot of fun.

Here is Roberto with his nice 35 pounder.

Here is the crew back at the Dunewood dock with the fish they kept and also a keeper fluke.

Happy times and good eating at Dunewood tonight.

A memorable day on the water.

My pal Billy made his maiden voyage into the ocean with his twin hull aluminum 36 foot ocean going cat boat.". He went out with his usual crew and scored big on a wreck dive bringing home a cooler full of lobster and sea scallops. Here are Wayne and Laura with a couple of nice 5 pound specimens.

This boat is going to be running offshore dive, shark and tuna trips later this season. Billy and I will be captaining the ship. It is an awesome fishing platform like a giant center console and it cruises at 30 knots.

I fished today with Jim Fudge and his friends Matt and Don.

We did a fluke fishing day and found it a tough pick. The hot fishing of a couple of days ago has now faded.

We did manage a couple of keepers and here is Don with his nice 7 pound fish.

It was kind of a tough weather day. The front that was supposed to pass by stalled and we were on the back edge of it all day. We had some drizzle and the ocean was up so we stayed inside and made a good day of it.

Another good day on the water.

What a day of fluke fishing!. I fished today with my pals Captain Rich Santos and Captain Dave Zarello. Dave is visiting up from Florida and I promised him a couple of days on the water while he is here.

We banged up the fluke today. It was unbelievable fishing, probably the best I have seen in all my long years of fishing.

We had a bunch of fish from 5 to 8 pounds all on light tackle using bucktails and pink and chartreuse Gulp mullet baits and all fish were caught on the inside.

These four fish are between 7 and 8.5 pounds.

It was a fun day and we had some good laughs and really had a bus-mans holiday full of enjoyment and camaraderie.

Once again a memorable day on the water with a great professional crew.

I fished out of Dunewood today with Greg Sandler, his sister Aviva and her kids Jack and Molly. Greg has been fishing with me since he was a little kid. We always do well when he is aboard. A few years ago Greg caught a 55 pound striped while fishing with me on the "Skimmer".

We had a banner fluke fishing morning with fantastic fish. I have never seen so many huge fluke inside the inlet.

We caught about 40 fish keeping 5 jumbo keepers from 5 to 8 pounds. All fish caught on Spro bucktails and pink or chartreuse Gulp.

The fish can be found from the inlet itself all the way back to Kismet and even beyond that.

The water was beautifully clean today and I think that is what made the fishing so great.

Another memorable day on the water.

I fished Out of Oak Beach today with Carl Curcio and his friend Joe (right to left), Carl hiding behind his fish.

We started with a little fluke fishing and had two keeper fish near the inlet in the morning.\

We then went into the ocean and fished the pods of bunker. We spent a long time bouncing from pod to pod and later finally found one holding fish.

We had fish up to 34 pounds and had a great time.

The ocean was beautiful, the air was hot and so was the fishing.

Tuna Fishing and Whales Southeast of Fire Island Inlet

Today I fished with Ed Mooney aboard his boat "Road to Happiness". We fished for tuna about 45 miles southeast of Fire Island Inlet.

The tuna fishing was pretty good and we caught three bluefin tuna up to 60 pounds keeping one for the table. We also had a Mahi of about 10 pounds. We went 2 for 4 on jigs and 1 for 1 on the troll.

Picture
Some big fish were caught by other boats, up to 200 pounds as reported on the VHF radio. Many big fish were lost after long battles on light jigging outfits. Chris Madonia on his 36 foot Yellowfin "Insuf -fish-ent Funds" fought a fish for about an hour only to lose it at the boat. He estimated the fish at about 150 pounds.

Picture
The most spectacular part of this trip by far was the whales. I have never seen such a concentration of these giants in one small area. I would estimate there were over 200 whales in a 3 square mile area.

Picture
It was a spectacular sight to see.

A great day of blue water fishing.
