I fished today with Ed Mooney on his boat "Road to Happiness" and we did have a "Happy" day of fishing. Skip Erickson was Captain and other guests included yours truly Captain Al and Eds good friends Jim and Fuzzy McCabe.

Above are some short video clips of the tuna below the boat. There were both bluefin and yellowfin. I saw one bluefin that went between 150 and 200 pounds but the aggressive smaller fi
A beautiful day and a smooth ocean. We headed out at 4 am and started trolling around the Texas Tower at 6:30. Very shortly later we started hooking up small yellowfin tuna.

We caught a bunch keeping a few in the 15 to 25 pound range and released a bunch.

It was pretty wild fishing with doubles and triples. They hit just about everything but liked the green machine spreader bar and ballyhoo on Mako jet heads best.

Later in the day we headed to a new area and found schools of Bluefin tuna cruising up on the surface. They were not feeding but we tried everything and finally got the right combination. Here is Fuzzy working a 60 pound bluefin to the boat with Skip ready with the gaff.

Ed worked the boat during the fight. A cool hand on the wheel.

Fish in the boat.

We hooked up 4 bluefin of which we kept one, released one and pulled the hook on the other two.

The fish would not touch anything but bait presented just perfectly. I tried plugs, jigs and all kinds of other lures in addition to trolling around and through the schools. After we hooked up in the first school they became very wary and we could not get another bite. We fished late and got back to Fire Island Inlet at 7:15 and finished cleaning fish and the boat by 9 pm. A long day but worth it.
