First report of the 2011 season. I have been running back and
forth for the past few weeks to Jamaica Bay and the striper season is
now in full bloom. If you love to live bait fish this is the place to
go. The fish are predominantly on the small size with 28” being the
norm but these little guys love live bunker and aggressively will
attack them. The fishing is challenging trying to get a small bass to
commit to large bait like bunker. The action is non stop and you will
be totally frustrated by days end with the amount of loss fish. This
is the perfect opportunity to sharpen up your skills and see how many
of these fish you can actually land. I never seen so many bunker, it
is hard to travel any ware in J_Bay with out seeing a bunker flip.
Snagging by mid morning gets almost impossible and cast netting is
strictly for the pro’s. Another skill that you can catch up on and
shed some of that winter salt. If any of you need more info on J-Bay
drop me a line or stop in over at the UPS Store I will be glad to
help.
Picture is my good friend Les Gobler and his high school buddy
Billy who is visiting from Wisconsin. We decided to take Billy out and
test his skills and he proved to be a contender. We all were able to
catch a number of fish and release them. This one we decided to keep
and cook for Billy a NY Striper meal. Note the jets in the
foreground.I can only imagine the fish stories Billy will tell about
his day fishing with his old high school buddy “Moe” when he get back
home. Life is Good

Its been many years since Ive fished in Jamacia Bay. I lived a half a block from the bay and was always fishing. I caught every specie, but it really felt good 38 years later and doing with an old friend that has offered me unamaginable hospatality from his Islip home. Thank You Les and Ray for posting this and giving me a sence of worth that has not been felt for years. And thankyou AL L for the informative dictation that first wednesday in May... I won the neoprene gloves. BILLY
