Conettquot River State Park Preserve

Now that fall is here you may want to explore one of Long Island's gems. Located on the middle of the island on the south shore. The preserve is 3473 acres of Long Island the way it used to be.  The property once belonged to the Southside Sportsman Club where New York city's elite would hunt and fish. The wildlife here is abundant you will see Deer, Foxes, Ospreys and Turkeys to name a few. If you are  a Long Island history buff this is a must see. For more information check out the links below.

A word of caution, don't make the mistake I made, stay away from the high grass. I walked through a nest of Lone Star Tick larvae. The larvae are so small that you may just think they are specks of dirt. 24 hours later I was bitten from the waist down. Photo
Wear long pants and tuck your pant legs into your socks or wear high boots.

Hate to break this to you, but even putting your socks up over your pants won't help with a tick larva hatch. They're so small, they can crawl right through the weave in your socks. The only thing I've ever been able to stop them with is spraying my entire socks and shoes with Deet and just not going into ANY place where they normally are during July or August. I feel your pain on those bites... I've had similar experiences except head to toe and everywhere (yes, everywhere) in-between. The itch lasts for weeks.

Thank you for posting the pic of the tick bites. Over a week ago I was hiking camp hero in montauk ( in low hiking boots and shorts of course) I walked though an unclear path that had tall grass. I thought nothing of it until later on when my ankles stated to itch like crazy. I pulled down my sock an noticed many tick larvae on my ankles. Now my ankles look like yours and itch like crazy! I'm glad to find someone with a similar experience. I was starting to get worried that the bites might be something serious.
