Picture
A yellowfin tuna caught by John Petruescu in Mexican waters aboard the San Diego-based Excel is expected by the crew to become the largest yellowfin ever landed on rod and reel.

The Excel, which had been fishing at remote Hurricane Bank (960 miles southwest of San Diego), will arrive atFisherman's Landing early Sunday morning and only then will the official weight be known.

However, in a satellite telephone interview, skipper Justin Fleck revealed that the yellowfin "taped out" at 459 pounds, not the 400-pound mark that has been shared all week on the vessel's Facebook page.

(Montauk, NY) On October 7, Star Island Yacht Club will host its 3rd Annual Striped Bass Tournament from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Prizes will be given to the heaviest striped bass and bluefish, with $10,000 in cash prizes being offered. The Captain’s Meeting will take place on October 6.

Prizes will be awarded in the Recreational and Charter Boat Division. Five thousand dollars will be given for the heaviest striped bass in the Recreational Boat Division, with the second-heaviest striped bass being given $2,500 and $1,500 to the third-heaviest striped bass. A prize of $1,000 will be given to the heaviest bluefish over 10 lbs. (These payouts are based on a minimum of 60 entries. In the event there are fewer than 60 entries, the prize money will be adjusted accordingly.)

In the Charter Boat Division, 80 percent of the entry fees will be paid out in prize money. The angler with the heaviest striped bass will receive 50 percent of the prize money, and the second- and third-place winners will get 25 percent and 15 percent of the prize money, respectively. The one with the heaviest bluefish will get 10 percent of the prize money.

Last year, 300 anglers and 77 boats participated in the two-day event, with over $52,000 in cash and prizes paid out. Todd Fontana aboard Bob Sztorc’s “Caprice” was last year’s winner with a striped bass of 46.6 lbs. The heaviest bluefish was caught by Rick Gulia aboard Hugh Chancey’s boat, “Mako 23” at 13.3 lbs.

Entry fee is $275 per recreational boat for up to four anglers ($50 for each additional angler). For those anglers who wish to get in on the action but do not own a boat, the Star Island Yacht Club Charter Fishing Fleet is home to Montauk’s finest and most knowledgeable Charter Captains. The charter boat entry fee is $375 for up to six anglers ($50 for each additional angler).

Transient rates for this tournament will be $2.50 per foot, plus $15.00 for utilities (water, electric and cable TV) per day, payable in advance. Dockage is available on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve dockage, go to www.starislandyc.com.

Yeti Cooler are now available at Trophy Tackle

Stop buying a new cooler every year, instead buy a cooler that will hold ice longer and last years! I have lost count of  all the cooler I have bought  through the years, but I know for a fact if you make the investment on these coolers you will save in the long run with ice lasting longer and coolers that don't fall apart in a year.

Backyard Sharking!

It’s amazing everyone in this video survived. Not because a would-be Jaws came out of the water and started dragging people away, but because even the healthiest of anglers would run a high risk of heart attack if this happened to them…

According to “mistersaurus84″ on youtube this happened in North Myrtle Beach in 15 to 17 feet of water.
