Red Fox

Picture
Very unusual in broad daylight but we were able to get close to a red fox that was sunning himself on the beach. It didn't seem to mind us very much. It strolled down the beach as we followed in a boat and then kind of looked at us as if to say i'm tired of you and then walked into the brush.  Check out more images in Hunting Reports

Bluefin Tuna Endure After Oil Spill

Fears that last year's BP PLC oil spill would decimate the bluefin tuna that spawn in the Gulf of Mexico haven't played out, with the population of the prized fish likely to be cut by less than 4%, a federal study has concluded.

The oil from the biggest offshore spill in U.S. history covered about one-fifth of the habitat of the Gulf's recently hatched tuna, and scientists feared that could hammer the future population of the fish.

Associated PressThe Gulf of Mexico's bluefin-tuna population is likely to be cut by less than 4% because of the BP oil spill.

An analysis based on two different models by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, has concluded that the spill "will likely result in less than a 4% reduction in future spawning biomass" of bluefin tuna in the Gulf.

Babylon Boat Works the boat building reality show shot right here on Long Island

Picture

First there was American Chopper, now there is Babylon Boat Works!

There is a new reality show on the Internet for any boater that was ever interested in restoring their classic sport fishing beauty back into pristine condition.

Babylon Boat Works is a unique operation that came together after Captain Al Lorenzetti, with the help of many friends, completely restored his 1979 23 foot Mako fishing boat. The restoration went so well, that soon boat owners wanted their own beloved boats to be restored and rebuilt.

Today, Babylon Boat Works is not only a working shop specializing in classic restoration and marine fabrication, it is also the hottest new reality show on the web. Each day, viewers can watch the live action on the BBW webcam as the crew faces challenges arising as they restore boats to their former glory. Daily updates from Capt. Al and crew highlight the day's progress and struggles.  Viewers will find Babylon Boat Works entertaining as well as educational.

Striped bass world record now  official

Albert McReynolds no longer owns the world striped bass record.

The former Atlantic City resident held it with a 78-pound, 8-ounce striper he caught on Sept. 21, 1982, until Wednesday morning, when the International Game Fish Association approved an 81-pound, 14-ounce heavyweight from Connecticut angler Greg Myerson.

2011 a Banner Year for Young Striped Bass

Newswise — Preliminary results from a 2011 survey conducted by researchers at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) suggest the production of a strong class of young-of-year striped bass in the Virginia portion of Chesapeake Bay. The 2011 year class represents the group of fish hatched this spring.

The results are good news for the recreational and commercial anglers who pursue this popular game fish because this year class is expected to grow to fishable size in 3 to 4 years. The results are also good news for Chesapeake Bay, where striped bass play an important ecological role as top predators.

New Liquid De-Fishing Soap

Picture
A new, liquid version of De-Fishing Soap has just been released. De-Fishing Soap is widely used by anglers since 2003 for lifting and neutralizing fish and bait smells from hands and arms. Now, a more convenient liquid version is available in a handy squeeze bottle.

“Anglers have been asking us for a liquid version,” says master soap maker Michelle Innis. “The finished formula has now been thoroughly tested. Liquid De-Fishing Soap works as perfectly as our bar soap. I guarantee it!”

Lingering odors on hands from handling fish and bait is a problem. Most anglers don't care for persistent fishy smells at social functions, the office, or in the days following fishing trips. Fishy smells also transfer to home and auto upholstery can linger for weeks.

De-Fishing Soap is guaranteed to remove even the most persistent smells including: anchovy, bass, catfish, carp, halibut, herring, mackerel, salmon, shrimp, squid, Bunker, yellowtail, tuna, and more.

Anglers will get excellent value with either liquid or bar De-Fishing Soap. Convenient liquid, in four-ounce squeeze bottle with flip-top cap spout, has a suggested retail price of $7.95 plus 3.00 for shipping

Opinion - Be Careful What You Post On-line

Picture
It has been extremely disturbing to witness the recent actions of many activist groups and the media as related to the tragic events in Arizona.  Many of these groups have attempted to further their agenda by manipulating the circumstances surrounding this tragedy and by suggesting cause and effect linkages based upon a benign Internet posting. As a result, Sarah Palin is presently engulfed in a media firestorm because of the now infamous image posted on her website, depicting a map with cross hairs on congressional districts across the country. Important lessons may be drawn from this travesty regarding the exercise of discretion in posting images on-line. These lessons may help protect the sport of recreational fishing from criticism and misrepresentation by its opponents.
