The Largest one day Bass tournament in the north east is back after being canceled due to the devastation of Sandy. The morning started off sloppy with a stubborn east wind that slowly subsided as the day went on. Most of the action was on the outside along the beach on diamond jigs. Curt Selafani aboard the "Blue Crush" had the heaviest Bass. The big Striper fell to a jig off of Sailors Haven and weighed in at 44 3/4 pounds. Chris Hooker on the boat "Spent" had second place with a 35 1/2 pounder caught off Gilgo. The third place fish was caught in the bay by John Willis near the wreck buoy and tipped the scale at 34 1/2 pounds. Check out the link below for the final standings and more images.

Today I fished with my pal Kevin Ryan and Tim C. Smith joined us for a video shoot on plugging and jigging striped bass. The bite has been great and the weather window looked good to do a video shoot so we went for it. In the early morning the jigging was hot in 40 to 50 feet of water east of Ocean Beach and we hooked up a bunch of fish or should I say Kevin did as I was trying out a new jig that didn't work too well. Kevin had 7 fish to my none. About a hundred boats motored into the area and put the fish down by 9 am. We then moved inshore just behind the breakers for some fantastic plug action. Gibbs Danny plugs in yellow were getting mauled by nice fish. We had doubles and fish taking the plug at the boat and running wild. The total for the day was probably 10 fish on jigs and 30 on plugs and a bunch of big bluefish is the mix. Tim will be posting some video of the action in the near future and you will see it on our YouTube Skimmeroutdoors channel to which I hope you subscribe. These video segments will focus on how to be most successful while using jigs and plugs including specific angling and tackle tips. It was a really spectacular day with good friends aboard and lots of fishing action. Captain Al Lorenzetti I fished today with William Wolcott and his fiancee Liz. Every year I donate a fishing trip to Ducks Unlimited as a supporter for their live auction at the annual meeting and Gala at the Racquett Club in Manhattan. William bid on the trip and won so today was the fulfillment of that pledge. William and Liz are also strong supporters of DU and anyone that loves the outdoors and hunts waterfowl should also belong to this great organization. We had a good day of fishing and finally had a great weather day. We caught bait early in the morning and then fished until 1 pm. William and Liz both had fish and all were in the 18 to 20 pound range. It was fun fishing on a beautiful day with a great crew. Another great day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/24/2012 I fished today with my old buddy Tony Mazzara from Tucson, Arizona who is back home visiting. We had a great day of fishing. We trolled deep diving Danny plugs and Mepps plugs and caught bluefish to 14 pounds and bass to 20 pounds. The fall run is definitely beginning. No real monster bass yet but they will be here in another week or two. Action is real good. Here is my buddy Tony with one of the smaller fish of the day. The action was great with huge blues and nice bass. It was a picture perfect day and we had a blast reconnecting and spending some quality time together. Another great day on the water with a long time best friend. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/3/2012 Today I fished with Mark Epstein, Barry Schula and their friend Joe (left to right) out of Saltaire. We had a great day of striped bass fishing on the bunker pods. Today there were fish on just about every pod. The ocean was beautiful and the fish were on the feed bag. We kept four fish up to 42 pounds and released a few. There was a ton of bait both west and east of the inlet today with fish taken both ways. It was a memorable day with lots of action and perfect conditions. Captain Al Lorenzetti Joe working a big bass to the boat. Mark having a great time as he usually does. He is cool all the time and loves to hunt for the fish just as does Barry. We all had a great time. Today I fished with Greg Tessar and his sons Matt, Dan and Greg Jr. (Right to left). We had a spectacular day of striped bass fishing on the pods in the ocean. We had many fish with most in the 35 to 45 pound range. The wind was blowing and the fish were eating. This was a great crew. Dad and his sons having a great time. They won this trip at a National Wild Turkey Federation dinner hosted by Peter Fazio. His game dinners are the best and the prizes are outstanding. He also does Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl dinners. Greg and his sons cashed in on a great prize and a great day of fishing. Another memorable day on the water with a great crew. Captain Al Lorenzetti What a great day of bass fishing on the bunker pods. Here is George early in the morning with a 40 pound bass. The first pod we jumped had fish on it. George did a nice release in this fish. A little later I got into a nice fish of 46 pounds. It took a hundred yards of line before it stopped. We kept one fish for the table this day. All other fish were in great shape and released. The big girl swimming away. My buddy Rich Santos with a very nice 48 pounds fish on his newly reloaded Mako 23. Nice fish Rich. George and Billy on Billy's hot Whaler. Nice fish too. Here is a crew to be reckoned with. Look out Mrs. Striped Bass. Another great day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/15/2012 Today I fished with Ben Kaminow and Rob Buetti (left to right). We had a good day of fishing and it was finally a nice weather day with lots of sun and a favorable wind. We had some nice bass up to 28 pounds and the bluefish were still relentless. We worked hard for the fish we caught but it is all part of the day. You never know what is going to happen until it does. Another memorable day on the water with a great crew. Captain Al Lorenzetti I fished today with Carl Curcio out of Oak Beach. We had a good morning of striped bass fishing on a not so nice day. The wind was blowing and the ocean was a mess. We worked plugs and bait for a nice bass of 30 pounds and a smaller fish of about 15 pounds. We also had a keeper fluke. Overall it was a great success with good company and good fishing. Another excellent day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti I fished today with Jerry Puccio and his friends, Darren, and Carlo (right to left). We worked hard today for fish but found a couple. The wind was blowing and the bluefish were chomping. It was tough but we prevailed. We had two nice fish one on bait and one on a plug. The weather and bluefish hurt us today but that is the way fishing goes. One day easy and one day tough. Over all it was a good day with a good crew. Fish in the boat and another great day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti |
