Jigging Striped Bass Fire Island Inlet

Today I fished with Rich Nelson and Wes Little.

Here is Wes with a nice fish.

We had a good time chasing the bass schools just west of Fire Island Inlet.

It was a little tough with a pretty rough ocean and limited schools of fish and many boats but we did catch some nice fish.

The first trip that Wes could make after being tied up all season at the Seaview Market and the first trip of the season with Rich Nelson who is up from Maryland.

Rich in front of the Market with a nice bass.

Another excellent day on the water.

Red Hot Bass Bite on Jigs off Fire Island Inlet

There is a red hot bass bite on jigs outside Fire Island Inlet with fish to almost 40 pounds.

Sand eels are on the diet. I also had big fish on plugs in same area with fish breaking on top.

A lot of fun fishing and another great day on the water.

Monster blues and false albacore Fire Island Inlet

I fished today with my old pal Marty Ferris.

We found huge bluefish that were stuffed with bait, mostly bunker, all over the ocean in about 60 feet of water.

We jigged some and had fun. A couple of bass were jigged in our area also. Not huge fish but 15 to 20 pound fish on any kind of silver jig.

We then found the false albacore by the thousands just west of the west bar and we had a blast with them.

Today I fished with Ken Cohen and his son Caleb.

It was a tough day of fishing for us. Yesterday I could do no wrong but today I was not so lucky.

I don't think it was just me or bad luck. It was a tough day for everyone. All the bait that was around yesterday disappeared. There was only one small bunch of bait and twenty boats trying to get in on it.

We managed to pull two big bluefish out of it but that was it. I searched all the way from way west of Tobay to the Fire Island lighthouse and did not find any other bait schools.

What a difference a day makes.

Striped Bass Fishing Fire Island on the Bunker Pods

I fished today with my buddy Jim Conte and his brother John who is visiting from England.

We had a good day on the bunker pods with fish to 47.3 pounds.

Here is Jimmy with his beautiful big 47 plus fish with nothing in the belly. This fish should have been over 50 with something in the gut.

It was a great fight on my 9 foot Lamiglas spinner with a Penn Battle spinning reel.

End of the day back at the house with our catch. Jim and John with a 47 and a 26 striped bass.

Another great day on the water with an excellent crew.

Striped bass Fishing Fire Island Inlet

No Images available but I fished today and had some success. There is definitely a body of bass that has entered the inlet and is now inside. I had two fish today taken inside on bunker, one 40 inches long but skinny and only about 24 pounds and another smaller fish about 17 pounds.

I fished outside on the bunker pods and had some big bluefish and another bass that was about 25 pounds but bluefish bit through the line chasing the bunker sticking out of the bass mouth right at the boat.

The action is heating up and it should be solid fishing from here on out.
