Another great day on the water with an excellent crew.

I fished today with Cody and his dad Kent and we had a great time with striped bass up to 30 pounds. We had at least 20 fish and left them biting. The day got better as time went on and we had a lot of fun. Dad and son were having a blast and so was I. This was the trip that Kent bid on at the auction during the Suffolk Marine Anglers Spring Striped Bass Tournament Captain's Meeting and it really paid off. Thanks Kent for helping the club and Hospice Care Network. Your generosity paid off in spades.

I fished today and had good success with fish up to 30 pounds. The bass action is hot east of Fire Island inlet with fish on the pods and on jigs. Lots of big bluefish to contend with but worth it as some of the bass are quality. I think this is just the first of the body of fish and the really big ones are due here any day. I had fish today both outside and inside fishing live bunker.
Captain Al Lorenzetti I did an exploratory trip today and found the bass feeding on bunker in the inlet. I had a bunch of fish up to about 28 pounds and left them biting. Give me a call or email and set a fishing date as soon as you can 516-312-5018 captal@skimmeroutdoors.com. The bite is on.
Captain Al Lorenzetti The storm is gone and the ocean is laying down. I will be fishing this Thursday and the weekend for bass and blackfish and will be checking out the action. The nor'easter and hurricane offshore had started the fall migration of big striped bass and now is the time to book a top spot date to fish. I have a bunch of bookings but still have a good number of prime dates around the moons of October and November and other dates as well. Live bait and plugging is on the agenda and hopefully jigging will happen as well. I am going to be mixing it up with blackfish and seabass as well as striped bass on the fall agenda. We will work for bass on the best tides and swing to blackfish and seabass in between. Also a cast and blast day for bass and sea ducks is an option. I look forward to a great season as the fish are on the feed around Fire Island and the ducks are flying. His dog Jax, a yellow Labrador was trained by Justin Hergert. We flew down to New Orleans and took in the sights including Bourbon Street. We then hooked up with Justin and spent two days with him learning all the things he taught Jax. He is really incredible with the dogs that he trains and they can do incredible things. We met a few of Justin's friends who help him out on occasion. Kevin and Jeremy are great guys and we all had a blast working Jax and the other dogs Justin is training at this time. We all went out to dinner including the wives and had an awesome taste of fine Louisiana food. On Sunday 9/28 we started the drive home with Jax and it was a tough trip with rain all the way for three days but it was well worth it. I have posted below three videos. In the first Rich is handling Jax on a blind retrieve. The last two are taken at the end of the training session when Justin lets the dogs socialize or just have fun with each other. If you want to get a really great waterfowl and upland hunting dog then Justin at Southern Way Retrievers is the man to talk to. You can call him at (229) 886-4274 and also check out what he has to offer on his Facebook page "Southern Way Retrievers". Awesome trainer, awesome dog and awesome trip. Captain Al Lorenzetti |
