 I Jumped on with Captain Rich Santos today and hit the pods. We had fun with fish up to 42 pounds. Action is spotty and you have to know how to work the pods to get connected. We did and were successful. Another great day on the water.

Fishing Report pod hopped for a few hours this am first mate hooked up with this 33lber they are here . catchem up!!! geo dixon  I fished today with Carl Curcio and Matt Leuci and we had fun catching 3 nice bass on a short half day trip. Two fish about 25 pounds and one about 20. It was a beautiful day on the water and good fishing.

Today I had 5 fish from 20 to 32 pounds working live bait around the inlet area. The fish below is 41 inches and 32 pounds. It was real healthy and clean just in from the ocean. I released it in excellent shape.
Shimano Tekota reels are really great. They are my go to reels for striped bass fishing. they have a low gear ratio which really makes them powerful and they have a very strong level wind system that lasts. The line counter models are super for trolling deep diving plugs for bass or slow trolling for fluke in the ocean. The Achilles heel to this reel is its handle. It is made of some cheap aluminum which with salt water use will become corroded around where it fits on to the main shaft. As corrosion eats away at the metal the handle will begin to develop slap, or just move back and forth without moving the spool. It is very annoying and becomes worse very quickly until the reel is almost unusable. Also very often the knob on the handle which should spin freely often tightens up and cannot be freed. To replace the handle with another junk handle costs fifty bucks with tax, shipping and handling. I became tired of spending good money for another piece of junk. Determined to solve the problem I did some leg work and found a machine shop to make a new handle that would accept an Accurate American made handle. I like the Accurate Speed handle best so that is what I chose to start with. Skimmeroutdoors.com and Trophy Tackle will now be handling this new product. The Accurate handle can be any color they produce including silver, gold, gun metal, red, blue, black and green or you can choose another type of Accurate handle configuration. The silver handle will be standard and other colors will have to be custom ordered and will take approximately one week. This stainless steel handle with Accurate speed knob will retail for $70. Once you replace the junk with this handle you will have a great reel and a handle that will last for the life of the reel and work better than the original. John Skinner is one of the best inshore fisherman around and has incorporated the Okuma Water Wolf camera to capture the incredible feeding habits of summer flounder. |
