Scott Roberts and his son Antonio fished for Team Regulator on Scotts's Regulator, Drift Wood in this years Manhattan Cup Striped Bass Tournament. The event raises money for Autism, Cystic Fibrosis, Inner City Kids and the Wounded Warrior Project. As we all know Scott loves to cook and had the opportunity to Meet celebrity chef Tom Colicchio of the television show Top Chef. Regulator Marine www.manhattancup.com Big bluefish are all over the bay and inlet area and some larger bass are starting to show. Here is Chris Kenneke with a 12 pound bluefish, one of at least 30 he caught on 5/8 on plugs and live bunker on the bunker pods in the bay. This is a hot bite and I am sure there are some bass mixed in. Weakfish are now being taken and their size is impressive. This is going to be a good season on the tiderunners. Flounder fishing is getting hot as well so we are in the fishing mode. I am getting booked for prime striper dates in late May, June and early July so if you want to fish on the right day with the best tide now is the time to book it. For the rest of this month if you book we can do a mixed bag day targeting flounder, weakfish, bass and as of 5/17 it will include a shot at some big fluke. To book a date go to http://www.skimmeroutdoors.com/charter-capt-al.html or log into www.skimmeroutdoors.com and click the Charter Captain Al button on the top and we can set up a great fishing day. Captain Al Lorenzetti captal@skimmeroutdoors.com I love the look of teak on a boat as it gives it a real classy look. To me just plain fiberglass or starboard doesn't cut it. The downside is that teak required maintenance in order to keep it looking good. I don't mind the work as it only takes a couple of days each spring to clean up or refinish any wood that is not looking just right.
The "Skimmer" is 35 years old and some of the teak is original and just worn out. I have sanded it down so many times that three quarter inch wood is now less than one half inch. I decided it was time to get some replacement parts so I searched for a craftsman that could duplicate my teak pieces. I found the right guy. His name is Jim Campbell and he is in Columbia, South Carolina. His website is www.louveredproductsunlimited.com and he is a real expert with building wood or starboard components. I ordered the front hatch and two fish box covers from Jim and he shipped them to me in three weeks. They are made of Burmese teak and are beautiful and the price was very affordable. I would recommend Jim to anyone that needs teak replacement parts for their boat. If you visit his website you will find all the contact information you will need. I have included some photos of Rich Santos and I finishing the pieces starting with filling the grooves with black rubber for the classic teak look. We will then give them a bunch of coats of Cetol Marine and Sikkens for the glossy look. |
