11/13
Fished with Ken Mearns of Babylon. We had three bass on live bait. One was
a good one at 22 lb., the other two were about 18 and 12 lb. Fishing is OK but
slimming down. The action was hot along the beach to the east. Lots of blues
and bass and some big fish. Looks like this weekend could be hot.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
11/7
Fished the Riverview Striped Bass contest with Tim C. Smith and Tara Froelich. It
was a tough day of fishing. We caught two small fish under the 36 inch minimum limit
and ended the day with nothing to weigh in. It was a beautiful day anyway and we
shot some good video that we will put on the site as a webcast. That's fishing!
Captain Al Lorenzetti
11/6
Fished in the morning to scope things out before the Riverview Bass Tournament set for
tomorrow. The fishing is tough with mostly smaller fish. I did catch two fish
on leve bait, a small one about 12 pounds and also a 20 pound fish. The water is
very cold at 46 degrees.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
11/3
Fished alone on an exploratory mission. Had a good day with 6 bass to 35 lb. on
live bait. Found a couple of new places that hold fish. There are a lot of
smaller fish, 15 to 18 pounds etc. and a few big ones just moved into the area. Yesterday
all the fish were of the smaller variety but today a few big ones were to be had.
The water really chilled out. On the ebb it hit a low of 43 in the backbay and the
high for the day at the inlet was 53.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
11/2
Fished with my son Luke and his girlfriend Becca. We caught four fish up to 20
pounds and dropped a bunch more. We had a good time. Tried blackfishing and it
was slow. One keeper and a few shorts.

Captsain Al Lorenzetti
10/26
Fished with Vicki and Bob Zoellner. We had five bass on live bait up to about 20
pounds. Heavy fog but no wind then clearing. Good clean water and lots of
bait. They had a good time. Vicki's first striped bass.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/25
Fished with Jim Burke and his brothers John and big George. We had an outstanding
day of bass fishing, the best of the season. 16 bass to 32 pounds to the boat and
dropped a whole bunch more, all on live bait. Unbelievable fishing and a beautiful
day! It doesn't get any better as you can tell by the smiles on everyone's faces.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/24
Fished with John Dall and his buddy Mark. We had a good day live bait fishing for
bass, four bass to 25 pounds and dropped a few more. An unexpected wind came up out
of the west and made fishing difficult but we did pretty well in spite of it.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/23
Fished on a short exploratory mission with Tim C. Smith. Fishing is outstanding.
Lots of bait and bass. Fish in the ocean and in the inlet and backbay.
Had a few bass to 28 pounds and quit at 10 am.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/21
Fished with Jim, Seymour and Greg of Dunewood. We fished live bait for bass and
had a good day. We boated four bass to 26 pounds and dropped a couple at the boat.
It was a little windy and made drifting a little difficult but we prevailed and
were rewarded with some nice fish.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/20
Fished with Gary Arnold and his pal Kevin. We hit the early ebb tide with live
bait and caught two bass to 20 pounds. We went out in the ocean and had another of
about 15 pounds and a couple of other run-offs. It was another real pretty day.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/15
Fished with John Dall. We had a good time with 6 bass on live bait up to 25
pounds. We fished hard looking for a big fish. No luck on the monsters but we
had an excellent day.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/14
Fished with Sean Boland and his buddies Rich Sr. and Rich Jr. We fished live bait
and had a fabulous day with big fish. We kept three, 38 pound, 35 pound, and a 20
pound fish. We released a 25 pounder and broke off a few. Great action and
another beautiful day.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/13
Fished with Lou Barash, his son Zach and Woody of Seaview. We had a good day
catching three bass up to 25 pounds on live bait. We dropped a bunch more. The
action was good and a beautiful day.

Captain Al Lorenzetti

different spots and all were holding fish. Six fish up to 30 lb.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/10
Fished today on an exploratory mission. Had three bass to 20 pounds on live bait.
Nothing really hot but fish on just about every good spot.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/6
Fished with Vernon Lee. We had a blast and a most excellent day of bass fishing.
We boated 14 fish between 20 and 30 pounds all on live bait. We kept two and
released the rest. We ran out of baits and left the fish biting. It doesn't
get any better.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/4
Tim C. Smith and I took a day to look for some bass and shoot some photos. We got
all that we hoped for, big bass from 25 to 32 pounds and lots of good photos to boot.
It was hot action on live bait.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
9/29
Fished with Gary Arnold of Bay Shore and his buddy Kevin. We had a fabulous day
of bass fishing. We boated 6 fish up to 32 pounds on live bait. It was non
stop action and a beautiful day. All the fish were big. Everyone had a ball.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
9/28
Fished with Bill Wallace who hails from South Jersey. We had an excellent day,
boating five bass up to 22 pounds on live bait. We kept 2 fish and released the
rest. There was lots of action with many run-offs, dropped fish etc.. It was a lot
of fun.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
9/27
Fished with Joe Beige, Mike, Mike's dad Dan and his pal Lenny. We had a lot of
fun. There was lots of bait so we loaded up in the morning and hit the start of the
ebb in the inlet. The bass were there! we caught three fish and dropped a
bunch more. The fish were from 16 to 18 pounds. It was a beautiful day for
both the weather and for fishing.Everyone had a great time!

Captain Al Lorenzetti
9/23
Fished for bass in the morning. It has now begun. Lots of bait and big
fish. I had two fish and dropped two on live bait. The biggest was 28 pounds.
The water is getting cleaner and the fishing is getting hot.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
9/19
Fished in the backbay. Fishing was great. Just used artificials and had a
ball. Caught a 4-pound fluke, 5-pound weakfish, 3-pound bluefish. Had a bunch
of smaller weakfish and blues that I released. I then did some plugging and scored
with 4 bass up to 28 inches. I got out the flyrod and hooked up another bass.
All this in three hours.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
9/8
Fished with John Dall. We looked for big stripers on live bait but did not catch
a one. Windy conditions made it tough fishing. I saw a couple of fish taken
but it was slow. The water color is not good. We rounded out the day with some
bottom fishing and did pretty well. A mix of porgies, kingfish, blowfish, snappers a
bluefish and a triggerfish made up the catch.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
9/7
Fished with Joe Siracusa aka Carl, his nephew Charlie aka Carl, and his friend Jeff aka
Carl Mal de Mare. We tried for fluke in the ocean but it was a bust. We spent
a half hour without a fish. I then headed for the Artificial Reef south of the
Lighthouse. We hit a couple of pieces and did real well with seabass and porgies.
We ended up with 25 seabass, 6 porgies and a bluefish. It was fun fishing and
a beautiful day.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
9/1
Fished with Annie, Ray, April and Glenn of Seaview. It was another
slow day fishing but beautiful weather. We bottom fished all over the place.
Lots of chum, but not many fish. Ended up with 4 seabass, 2 kingfish, 2 porgies and a
bluefish. It was a fun morning and real hot.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/31
Fished with Lori, Adam, Jodi and Steven of Ocean Beach. The fishing
was poor. We caught a few fish, enough for a snack but that was it. Tough
fishing but a beautiful afternoon and lots of laughs.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/30
Fished with Karen, David, Alexander and Rebecca of Seaview. We
caught the Great South Bay mixed bag of porgies, seabass, kingfish and blowfish. The
fishing was OK but not great but all had a good time.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/28
Fished with Joel, Harriet, Aaron, Sydney and Benjamin of Seaview. We
fished bottom in a few different spots around the bay. Used clam chum and clam bits
on the hook. We had a good catch of porgies, seabass, kingfish and a trigger fish.
The kids had a real good time, everyone had fun. Aaron was a dedicated
fisherman. Benjamin fell fast asleep on the way home as you can see. It was a
good day.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/25
Fished with Ken, Amy and their daughter Alexandra and son Clint of
Seaview. It was a beautiful day but the fishing was slow. We tried for fluke
in the ocean and caught two keepers. Lots of short fish. We also caught two
bluefish while fluking. We went back to the bay to bottom fish but it was dead, not
a fish. Everyone had fun, especially Clint.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/23
Fished with Linda Rowan, her daughter Catherine and son Patrick of
Dunewood. We started off with the false albacore in the morning in the inlet.
We hooked up with one fish and Patrick did a great job in fighting it to the boat.
It was a good fish of about 6 pounds. The schools were not showing very well so we
finished the day bottom fishing around the Kismet Reef and West Island. We caught
one of everything. A trigger fish, seabass, blowfish, porgy, kingfish and a
weakfish. It was a fun day for all.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/22
Fished with Lou Barrish and son Zach of Seaview. We fished the ocean
for fluke. There was no wind and no drift so I power-drifted and it worked pretty
well. We caught 6 keeper fluke and four of them were in the 4 pound range. We
finished up with some bottom fishing and caught 3 kingfish and a blowfish. It was a
good day.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/21
Fished with Brad Brown and his brother-in-law Lloyd of Saltaire. We
had a great day. The false albacore were in the inlet in the early morning. We
caught 5 on light spinning gear. These fish were awesome fighters on light tackle.
We then went after some fluke but it was slow. We got 3 keepers.
Because it was so slow we decided to try for bluefish. I headed out to 90 feet of
water southeast of the inlet and set up a slick. We got into the blues up to 10
pounds. We boated about a dozen and lost a bunch more. It was a great day.
Here is Brad battling with an albacore.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/20
Fished with Will Sandler and son Casey of Dunewood. This was the day
that the fluke fishing in the ocean took a downturn. We did manage 5 keepers but it
was a slow pick. I forgot to get a picture of Casey with a fish before I cleaned
them so here is one of a bag of fillets.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/19
Fished with Meryl, Bob and Alessa Messineo of Seaview. We hit the
ocean for fluke in the afternoon. The fishing was pretty good and we ended up with
10 keeper fluke up to about 4 pounds and a bluefish. Weather was beautiful and all
had a good time.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/16
Fished with the Crone family of Seaview. Steven, Elissa, son Max and
daughter Lily. We bottom fished and caught a mixed bag of porgies, kingfish, seabass
and a 4 pound triggerfish. We then went for fluke in the inlet and caught a keeper
and a couple of shorts. The wind came up and made it tough fishing at the end of the
day. Everyone had a good time especially the kids.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/11
Fished with Brad Brown of Saltaire. We bottom fished for live bait
to use for bass. The action was excellent and we caught a bunch of kingfish, porgies
and seabass. Later we tried for a big bass but didn't catch any. We then
headed out into the ocean for fluke. At first it was dead. There was no breeze
and no drift. All we caught were skates. About noon, a breeze started and the
fluke turned on big time! We caught out limit in about an hour. The biggest
fish was about 7 pounds with a good bunch in the 3 to 5 pound range. The big fish
was part of a double header, 7 pounder on the "silver bullet" and a 4 pounder on
the teaser. Brad had never caught a bluefish and so he is proudly holding his trophy
blue next to the big fluke. We had a lot of fun.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/1 to 8/9
Fished with Len Lapsys in Sun Valley, Idaho. The Big Wood River is a
most beautiful environment and loaded with rainbow trout. On my best day I landed 15
rainbows and a couple of cutthroat up to 17 inches. It is very beautiful country.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
7/28
Fished with John, Andrew, Steve and Paul of Kismet. We worked the
ocean area southeast of the inlet about two miles. The fishing was good. We
caught about forty fish with sixteen keepers. Two fish were better than five pounds
and several others were over three pounds. Everyone had a good time.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
7/21
Fished with my wife Lynn in the morning for fluke. We had six
keepers in about two hours. The fish were in a tight spot SSE of the inlet about 2
miles. We fished about a mile and a half east of the Captree fleet. Two fish
were real big, one was 7 pounds the other was 5 pounds. Lots of schools of bluefish
were in 50 feet of water; two to four pounds and little ones, one-half pound were up tight
to the beach. We caught a few on jigs and then concentrated on the fluke. It
was a good day of fishing.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
7/19
Fished with Simmie, Alan, Chris and Chuck of Seaview. We tried for
weakfish first and had no luck so we switched to fluke. The action was incredible
for the last two hours of flood tide and first hour of the ebb. We were fishing near
the Inlet using spearing and squid for bait. I could hardly keep up with releasing
shorts and rebaiting hooks. We must have caught between 75 and 100 fish of which 15
were keepers. It was a lot of fun for all and a nice bunch of fillet for dinner.
Everyone had a good time.

Fished with John Dall and his guests Jim, Rich and young Jake. We
fished the ocean for fluke on a pretty windy day. The wind was blowing about 20 out
of the northwest. It was fishable because we were in the lee to some extent.
The best action was in 55 feet of water south of Cedar Beach. It was not hot action
but a pick. We ended up with 15 keepers. At the end of the day we found big
slammer blues crashing bait in the back bay. We hooked up with a few fish on light
spinning tackle. It was a mismatch. These fish coundn't be stopped. We
managed to boat one fish about 6 pounds. The other fish must have been much
bigger. Everyone had a great time especially young Jake!

Captain Al Lorenzetti

We left the dock early Saturday morning in search of Bluefish and maybe
shark only to be disappointed by poor water visibility. We were 17 miles off the beach
where we set-up anyway despite the murky water. We stuck it out for 4 hours with nothing
but a 5 second runoff. I was ready to pack it in and head in-shore and try for some Fluke
when I noticed some bird life way off in the distance. Anthony and Tara quickly brought in
the lines and we steamed towards the first real sign of life I saw all Day. As we arrived
closer I could see more birds and water boiling beneath them. When the Argo was in range I
through a surface plug into the frenzied water only to pull out a small cocktail Blue.
Somewhat disappointed we kept tossing popping plugs into the fray and used light tackle to
increase the sporting value. I then hooked up with something larger that was
stripping off line at an alarming rate. The fight was different then the bluefish but what
could it be? Three minutes later we netted a 5.5 lbs. Weakfish. At this time we were
completely surrounded by bait, birds and foaming boiling water. We changed over to lead
heads with swimming jelly bodies where we were able to get the lures below the Bluefish
and hook up with big Weakfish every cast. The fish were all 5 plus lbs. Tara had the
biggest weighing in at 7.5 lbs. We all lost count of the fish we caught but I think it
would be safe to say we had 15 to 20 Weakfish each. Early in the game we started releasing
fish and keeping only the ones that did not look like they would make it or chopped in two
by large bluefish. When we left the water was still boiling but we were to tired to catch
even one more.

Tim
6/29
Fished with Bart Romano, his son Frank and good buddy Carl. We had a
good catch of about a dozen nice fat flounder and five or six good fluke. We tried
for bass with live bait but is was a bust, not even a hit. The fishing was a little
picky, wind was from the east. The rain held off pretty much and the sun even popped
out at the end of the day. Everyone had a good time.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
6/26
Went looking to find out what was happening on the fishing front.
Caught a few nice flounder early in the morning. Drifted live bait for bass but
didn't hook up. I had a few pick-ups by small fish and had about an eighteen pound
fish follow the bait to the top but not eat it. I then fished the ocean for fluke
and it was red hot. I limited out in an hour and a half. I only kept fish over
two and a half pounds. Green was the ticket. Green on the silver bullet and
teaser with strip baits. White caught nothing. I had a fluke hit the bait
while retrieving the line. The fish followed the bait half way up to the boat,
thirty feet off the bottom. Amazing!
Captain Al Lorenzetti
6/18
Fished with Len Lapsys and his good friends Danny and Gladys. We
first tried for fluke in the ocean but did not do so well. We got there a little
late. The wind died out and we had almost no drift. We managed only two
keepers. In the early morning I heard there was a good bite in the area. On
Saturday in the wind, if you could stand it, the fishing was really great. After our
fluke attempt we tried for flounder around the inlet. We had a super catch of forty
big fat fish. Heavy chumming was a must to keep the action going. It was my
best flounder day of the season.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
6/17
Fished with John Dall, his father Phil and brother Ted. The weather
finally turned sunny but the wind was blowing hard. The water was dirty and so it
made fishing tough. We managed a couple of flounder and fluke. The guys still
seemed to enjoy the trip even though the fishing was slow.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
6/14
Fished late in the day with Ken Mearns. We had en excellent catch of
big flounder and a striped bass. The flounder Ken is holding is almost 3 pounds.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
6-3-00
I fished the Amity Harbor Civic Association
Fluke tournament with Tara Froehlich, her brother Joe and his fiancé Lisa. We came in
first place with a 3.00 lb Fluke. We had about 25 fish with 8 keepers. All the fish where
caught in the East West Channel. Click on the image below to see a Hi-Resolution chart
image of where the fish were caught courtesy of Maptech.

6/3
I went on an exploratory fishing trip. Tried some new spots and
it worked out real well. The day ended with a good catch of flounder, weakfish and a
striped bass of 30 lb.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
5/29
Fished in the morning with Rich and Nick Santos of Babylon. We
fished for flounder in the Sore Thumb area and had a good catch. We had 8 keeper
flounder up to 2.6 lb. and five kingfish. The flounder were all fat and put up a
good fight. A good time was had by all.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
5/27/00
My son Luke and our old buddy Ian got their long promised fishing
trip. We fished for a couple of hours in the early morning jiggind artificials in
the back bay areas. We caught a couple of bluefish, a few bass one of which was a
keeper and a weakfish. We had a good time.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
5/26/00
Fished with Gary, Bob and Rich out of Kismet. We fished live
bait around the inlet. We caught a bass about 20 lb. and dropped a couple of other
fish. It was a bit windy and made it tough to get a good drift. we also caught
a bunch of herring/shad early in the morning. The weather was pretty good and it was
an enjoyable day.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
5/21/00
Fished the "Surfside 3 Weakfish Tournament" Saturday and
Sunday in horrible weather. Wind blew from the East (fish bite the least) and it was
as cold as November. John Dall from Bay Shore an I gave it our best. We
managed one small weakfish and a half dozen flounder on Saturday. Sunday was much
better with an 8.26 weakfish that took 6th place in the tournament. We also had a
lot of fun with bluefish up to 6 lb. and about a dozen bass, about half keepers up to 33
inches.
The tournament was well run and had lots of prizes including a 17'
Boston Whaler boat with Mercury power for first prize. We didn't
win it but did get a Lowrance X-48 recorder for sixth place. I also won an Igloo 54
quart cooler for a raffle prize. Paul and Matthew Barbara of "Surfside 3"
with sponsors "The Fisherman" , "Boston Whaler" and "Captain
Bill's" ran a top notch event. They promised next year would be bigger and
better!
All considered it was a successful weekend of fishing. John and
I had a good time.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
5/8/00
Fished the back bay for a couple of hours in the afternoon with my
son Luke. We caught our first weakfish of the season on a jelly worm on the flood
tide. The water has cleaned up a bit. It looks like the yellow-brown algae is
finally dying off. This will help the fishing. The weakfish was really on the
feed. It took the lure way deep, no question about a solid hookup. We also
caught a few searobins so the fluke must also be in the neighborhood.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
4/28/00
Fished the State Channel early in the AM and then flounder in the PM.
Al from the Sea Devil caught a few nice bass on plastics. I didn't do very
well but managed one pretty good fish about 30 inches. Flounder fishing was slow.
I fished with Ken Mearns of Babylon and we caught only two fish in Dickerson's
Channel.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
4/24/00
Fished the State Channel for a couple of hours in the AM and
connected with one small bass on green plastic with lead head. The fish was about 20
inches. Other fish were taken in the area. I was checked by the DEC Officer on
a Coast Guard boat. They were courteous and checked to see if I had any fish on
board. They checked my registration and asked if I had seen anyone breaking the law.
I told them that I had not and that was about it. I was glad to see
enforcement on the water.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
4/20/00
Fished the State Channel with my son Luke on my birthday for anything
that would bite on a lure. We didn't catch a thing but Al on the Wild Mouse had
three Bass up to 35 inches. There are fish in the neighborhood if you want to put in
the time. It is early and the fish are feeding on the bottom to slowly worked soft
plastics and bucktails.

Captain Al Lorenzetti
4/15/00
Fished Saturday morning in the rain but it was peaceful rain.
Caught 3 flounder in the Babylon cut on my little 14 foot MFG. Lots of really big
skates beating me up. The fish were fat but not big but made for some good
eating. All were packed with clam chum when I examined them upon cleaning.
They are active and feeding but not too plentiful in this area. Bigger fish were
caught way to the East off Heckscher Park but also not plentiful.
Captain Al Lorenzetti
4/8/00
Fished with Rich and Nick Santos on their new (used) 23' Wellcraft.
We fished for flounder in the Babylon Cut. It was the only place we could
hide from the 25 to 30 mph winds. We chummed with clam chum and fished blood worms.
We caught 6 fish, all keepers but on the small side. We quit at noon.
It was fun to be back on the water!
Captain Al Lorenzetti
THE BEGINNING OF A NEW YEAR OF FISHING
2/23/00
This is the first report for the new year. I fished with
Rich Santos at Connetquot State Park during the afternoon session. We had beats 21
and 22. They aren't the best spots in the park but we got there late and had no
better choices. There were plenty of fish however near beat 21 and we had a good
time. It was a real nice day with temperatures about 50 degrees. The fish
seemed to prefer bead heads and black wooly buggers. We caught and released about 4
or 5 fish each, all rainbows. The sea run steelheads have not arrived in any numbers
yet but are due soon. A great day!
