| 11/15/02 Fished for striped bass today. Drifted live bait and caught some fish. Most were in the mid teens. The bulk of the big fish have moved out of the inshore waters. If the winds settle down, now would be the time to catch a big one on a bunker spoon. As for me, I'm ready for the ducks. Hunting season is now under way. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/14/02 Fished with Seymour. Finally got a good day after a week of lousy weather. The fishing was pretty good. Caught a bunch of bass up to about 25 pounds. If the weather settles down I think the fishing will be real good. Water temperature is up a bit. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/5/02 Fished with Seymour today. It was another good day of bass fishing. Drifted live bait and beat up on about 15 fish up to 30 pounds. Lots of action and dropped a good one. Boat traffic made things a little tough but it was a beautiful day, good fishing and fun. An interesting side note. I caught a bass today that was messed up. It looks like it was bitten by a bluefish which opened its abdomen. Its intestine or some other internal organ was partly hanging out of the healed scar. Other than that the fish looked healthy and fought hard. I released him relatively unharmed. Check out the photos. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/4/02 Fished with John Dall today. We fished for striped bass with live bait. Caught about 15 fish into the mid twenty pound range. Weather turned miserable so we bagged it a little bit early. Some big fish were caught today. Bait was plentiful. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/2/02 Fished with Ryan, Sean and Tom today. We didn't catch as many fish as yesterday but scored a big one. We boated about 6 bass using live bait. Conditions were very tough with a stiff west wind blowing right down the pipe against the tide. The big fish weighed 43 pounds on the Boga grip scale. The other two of the three we kept were in the low twenties. We wrapped it up early. It was cold and nasty. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/1/02 Had another banner day with striped bass. I fished with John Locurto. We loaded up on live bait and caught a mess of fish. We boated over 20 fish, I lost count. Had fish up to 30 pounds and dropped a big one that came up to the top and shook its head, tossing the bait and hook about 10 feet. It was well over 30 pounds, maybe pushing 40 pounds. The wind came up and we beat it home at about 1 pm. Hot fishing! Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/29/02 Well, it occurred just like I thought it would. A new body of fish moved in again. Fished with Seymour and banged about a dozen bass to 25 pounds in a couple of hours. If the big blow coming tomorrow doesn't mess it up, fishing should be good for the next few days. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/28/02 Well, today was a tougher day than yesterday. Fished with Jim Laghezza and his dad Tony. Drifted live bait all day with only one small bass. Had a couple of other runoffs but not much to speak of. No boat traffic to blame. The big school of bass must have left with the bait. Another school will hopefully show up tomorrow or some time soon. Right now there are just a few fish around the neighborhood. Jim and Tony were good sports about it. That's fishing! Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/27/02 Fished with Ken and Amy Ross and their kids, Clint and Ali. We fished a short day without much luck. Drifted live bait but no bass at all. Crazy boat traffic and no bait schools to boot. Tough day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/26/02 Fished for a few hours in the afternoon with Rich Santos and his son Nick of Babylon. We fished aboard Rich's 23' Regulator. The bait was poppin and we loaded up. Caught about 10 bass up to 30 pounds. Wild action and wild winds. A good time was had by all.
10/25/02 Fished with Peter Pelling and his friend Peter from New Jersey. We hammered the striped bass while drifting live bait, boating about 25 fish up to 27 pounds. The bite was on all day. Another excellent day of fishing. Everyone had a great time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/24/02 Had a fabulous day of striped bass fishing. Bait was all over the place and the bass were on the feed. Fished with Brian, Barry and Larry. They had a ball catching 25 bass. Two fish were 30 pounds and a bunch in the twenties. Beautiful weather and fantastic fishing. It doesn't get any better. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/23/02 Fished live bait for striped bass. Had 14 fish into the mid twenties with Seymour and Hector. Good day of fishing but very windy conditions made it tough. If it were a better day, we would have had more fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/22/02 Fished for bass again today. Drifted live bait and beat them up. Had about 15 fish up to 25 pounds. Weather was nasty in the morning with a NE wind blowing about 20 knots. It then got beautiful and the fishing turned on. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/21/02 Had a good day of striped bass fishing with Russell and Bob. We drifted live bait for 10 fish up to 28 pounds. Lots of action all day. Weather finally cleaned up and it was fun. Catching bait was tough however. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/18/02 Fished with Ray, Guy, Wells and Seymour. We drifted live bait for big bass. We caught 1 fish about 25 pounds and dropped a good one. Everbody had a good time.
Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/17/02 Fished with Bob Kerr of Fair Harbor. We fished live bait for bass. We scored with three fish up to 20 pounds. Water was a little dirty from the effects of the Noreaster the day before. Weather was great. Good day with lots of sun and some fishing action. Sorry for the water droplet on the lens which messed up Bob's photo. Captain Al Lorenzetti
10/15/02 Fished live bait for striped bass. Caught a couple of fish in the mid to upper teens. Not many fish around right now but the next big bunch should move in through the inlet any day. Weather has been horrible and haven't fish much in the last few days. Next week should be good. Lots of Brant are showing up and the ducks and geese are getting active. Hunting season is just around the corner. Time to break out the decoys and waterfowling gear! Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/9/02 Fished with Steve, Renee and Eddie of Atlantique. We did the bass trick again. Drifted live bait and caught some nice fish. 3 striped bass up to 25 pounds, a weakfish and a nice seabass. Good morning of fishing. All had fun. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/8/02 Fished with John Locurto. We drifted live bait for bass and banged them up real good. We landed 16 fish up to 38 pounds. Hot day of fishing with the wind a blowin. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/6/02 Fished with Dick Kossoff and his buddies Richard and Dennis of Seaview. We did some bottom fishing and caught a bunch of porgies. We then drifted live bait for bass. The fishing was slow with a lot of wind and boat traffic but we managed a bass of about 15 pounds. Dick was the proud angler on the fish. All had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/3/02 Fished live bait for bass again today. Did pretty well boating 3 fish up to 20 pounds but dropped a couple today due to equipment problems. Broke a line and lost a good one and broke a rod and lost a real good one that pushed 30 pounds. You win some and you lose some, just glad it didn't happen on a 50 pound fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/2/02 Fished with Gary Arnold. We drifted live bait for bass and scored with 9 fish up to about 25 pounds. Still picky fishing with a fish here and there. Mostly smaller fish from 15 to 20 pounds. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/1/02 Fished with Ian Peverley of Babylon. We had 6 bass to 20 pounds drifting live bait. It was fun but the wind made fishing a little tough. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/21/02 Fished for bait and bass but both were duds. The water is warm and dirty. We need some cool weather and a good storm to get things cleaned up and going. Tough time to fish at the present. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/20/02 Fished with Lou and his son Zach of Seaview. We caught a bunch of porgies and snappers. We then drifted live bait for some gamefish but struck out. It was real quiet. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/19/02 Fished with Seymour and his buddy Hector. We caught a bunch of bait and drifted it for striped bass. We caught 6 bass up to 20 pounds. Not hot fishing but a pick here and there. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/13/02 Took a little trip up to Cape Cod. I hooked up with friends from the Plymouth area. Steve and his son Eric took me on a trip to fish the Monomoy Island area near Chatham, Mass. We trailered Steve's 20 foot Hydra Sport rig, launched in a marina near Chatham and made the run to Monomoy Island. It was a windy day and made for some tough fishing but we toughed it out and caught some good fish. We were jigging 7 inch "Fin S" tails on lead heads. They simulate the large sand eels that inhabit this area. We caught a bunch of nice bluefish and a bass about 8 pounds. The bass was caught on the rips at the south end of Monomoy. Dogfish are quite common in this area and they plagued us for most of the day. An amazing sight was the large number of seals hanging out on the beaches and feeding in the shallow waters along the channels. A 25 knot wind made for an interesting ride home. Steve and Eric's 20 foot Hydra Sport handled the 6 foot wind driven chop and swell very well and made for a memorable experience. It was a good day and I will certainly fish the area again. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/6/02 Fished for striped bass today. It was a beautiful day but the fishing was a little picky. Managed 5 bass with one nice fish about 25 pounds. A fish here and a fish there. No real bite. Live bait again. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/5/02 Fished today with Greg and his buddies from Dunewood. We had a great day of fishing. We hammered some nice weakfish in the morning and a bunch of bass around the middle of the day. The weakfish were up to 9 pounds and the bass up to 25 pounds. All fish were taken on live bait. We also had a nice false albacore on spinning gear. A lot of fun and a beautiful day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/4/02 Fished for bass today. Looking for the start of the fall run and I think it has started to happen. Had 8 fish up to 27 pounds. Not bad with all the churned up water. Live bait of course. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/30/02 Fished with Seymour, Wells and Ron of Dunewood. Fishing was tough and so was the weather. We caught a bunch of snappers and porgies. We then drifted live bait and scored with a keeper bass and a weakfish. Not much for a full day but who's complaining. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/27/02 I fished with Brad, Lloyd and Seymour. We did a number on the big weakfish and bluefish drifting live bait near the inlet. 15 weaks to 11 pounds and 5 blues to 10 pounds. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/26/02 Fished with Tony and his son Jared and Jared's friend Joe of Seaview. We caught a bunch of snappers and porgies. We then drifted live bait for big fish. We connected with big weakfish up to about 10 pounds and a couple of bluefish up to 14 pounds. Everyone had a good time and the weather was beautiful. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/23/02 Fished with Brad Brown of Saltaire. We fished live bait and beat up on the fish. We kept 3 bluefish and 6 weakfish. The blues were 9 to 12 pounds and the weakfish from 8 to 11 pounds. Lots of action and we released a bunch more fish. Weather was tough but the fishing was good. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/22/02 Fished with Steve, Elissa and their children Lily and Max of Seaview. We caught a bunch of snappers to start the day. We then drifted them for big fish and caught a couple of jumbo bluefish. The next move was to fish for porgies. We beat up on the tasty little guys and had a good time with lots of action. Lily caught a nice weakfish about 3 pounds while bottom fishing. We then tried for a striped bass with live bait but didn't do anything. It was a good day of fishing. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/21/02 Fished with Steve of Dunewood. We caught a bunch of porgies and snappers. We then fished live bait and caught a big bluefish and a striped bass. Beautiful day and the fishing was good. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/20/02 Fished with Dick, Lou and Zach of Seaview. We bottom fished and caught a bunch of porgies. We then cast lures for a bunch of snappers and fished the snappers and porgies as live bait. We connected with a big bluefish and Lou had a wild fight with the big fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/19/02 Fished with Joel and Harriet and their beautiful children, Sidney, Benjamin and Aaron. We did some bottom fishing and caught a few porgies but most were small. We then headed out into the ocean which was flat calm and caught two nice keeper fluke. It was a good day and everyone had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/17/02 Fished with Dave, Danny and Seymour. We did the same thing as yesterday, fluke fishing in deep water. Today was not as good as yesterday but not bad. There was no wind and it was very hot. We had a poor drift. We had a slow pick but quality fish two over 7 pounds, two over 6 pounds, one about 5 pounds and one about 3 pounds. We quit early because of the heat and the hords of black flies. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/16/02 Fished with Dave, Wells, Danny and Seymour. We fished on Dave's 32 foot L&H. We had a ball catching 30 fluke up to 9 pounds. Ten of the fish were over 5 pounds. We fished deep water, about 100 feet, to the southeast of the inlet. Great day of fluke fishing.
Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/14/02 Fished with Steve and his son Luke of Dunewood. We fluke fished in the ocean. It was still a little lumpy but we endured and caught about 9 keepers. Fishing was a little picky but OK. Hot day! Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/13/02 Fished with Seymour and his son Mark. We did a little porgy fishing and caught a good bunch. We then hit the ocean for some fluke fishing. We caught a couple of nice fish but quit early because the ocean was sloppy. We went back into the bay and caught a big bluefish on live bait. A very busy day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/12/02 Fished with Janet, Stephan and Ed of Dunewood. We caught a mixed bag of porgies, triggerfish, bluefish and fluke. The big blues were nailed on live bait. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/10/02 Fished with Seymour, Ken, John and Steven. We did some fluke fishing in the ocean. It was a little on the picky side but we did manage 12 fluke to about 4 pounds. We fished in 80 to 90 feet of water, southeast of the inlet. Better catched were made farther to the east but we missed it. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/8/02 Fished with Ande, Lynn, Dan, Michael and Aaron of Fair Harbor. We tried casting for Bonito that were showing outside the inlet but had no luck. The schools were too wide spread and moving too fast. We did see a lot of spanish mackerel jumping. We then did a little bottom fishing and caught a few fish but it was slow. As a last resort we headed into the ocean for some fluke fishing and did pretty well. We caught 5 keepers in about 80 feet of water south of the inlet. Everyone had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/3/02 Fluke fishing again. Today was a little tough with no breeze. Power drifting worked pretty well. We had 12 nice fish from about 3 to 5.5 pounds. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/2/02 Went fluke fishing with Wells and Seymour. We set up in about 85 feet of water, southeast of the inlet. There was a pretty good breeze today so we had a good drift. The fishing was great. We caught 17 fish up to 7 pounds with six fish over 5 pounds. Fluke belly strips with spearing was the most productive bait. We used fluke balls of 8 or 10 ounces to hold bottom and fished a trailer hook off a three way swivel about a foot above the ball. Green squid skirts on the trailer worked best. The biggest fish was taken on the ball. A great day of fluke fishing. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/1/02 Did the fluke thing again in the ocean. The fishing was not as good as yesterday but it was still good. We ended up with about six good keepers. There was no wind at all and we had to slow troll to get the fish turned on. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/31/02 Fished with Seymour and John of Dunewood. We fished the ocean for fluke and beat up on them. We caught the limit of fish between 3 and 7 pounds. Spearing and fluke belly did very well and the fish seemed to be concentrated in about 80 feet of water to the east of the inlet. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/30/02 Fished with Sheri, Peter, Michael, Zane and Theo of Seaview. We bottom fished around structure near the inlet. The fishing was good and we caught a lot of good eating fish. We ended up with a load of Triggerfish, Seabass and Porgies. The kids had a great time and Sheri and Peter also had fun. It was a good trip for all. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/27/02 Fished with Peter and his sons Daniel, Zach and Noah. We caught a real mixed bag of fish. We started out bottom fishing and caught a mess of porgies, trigger fish and seabass. We then tried fishing live bait for bass and blues. We didn't do anything with that so we headed into the ocean and did some fluke fishing. We got a keeper but then saw schools of bonito around the boat. We started casting and hooked up with a nice fish. All had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/26/02 Fished with Wells and Seymour. We caught a bunch of nice porgies and drifted live bait. We caught about 10 big slammer blues and had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/25/02 Fished live bait today. Very tough conditions with a wind out of the east at 20 to 25 knots. Caught about 10 big blues and a bass. It felt like a fall day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/23/02 Finally got back to some fishing after a vacation in Daytona Beach. I fished with Seymour of Dunewood and his son Warren and grandchildren Cameron and Johnny. We caught a bunch of small bluefish on 007's while casting to the schools that were all around the inlet. Drifted live bait for a while and hooked up big bluefish up to 12 pounds. Windy conditions made it tough and we bagged it pretty early. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/10/02 Fished with Seymour today. It was a great day of bass fishing. Caught live bait and drifted them near the inlet. We had a fabulous hour of fishing when the bass were turned on and they were big. We released 3 fish in the 30's, actually the biggest was 36 pounds on the Boga scale, a couple in the upper twenties and two or three in the upper teens. Three double hook-ups and lots of action. Great day of fishing. Below are images of the 36 pound fish when caught and upon release. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/9/02 Fished bottom today to see what was going on. Had a good bunch of porgies. Drifted live bait and had a ball. 9 good bass to 32 pounds and lots of action. The fish are there, go and get them. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/8/02 Fished with Mike and Jeff of Fair Harbor and their sons Mark and Lou. We had a good catch of porgies. We drifted some live bait for about an hour and hooked up with a couple of nice bass between 15 and 20 pounds. Needless to say, all had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/5/02 Fished with Wells of Fair Harbor and Seymour of Dunewood. We caught a load of porgies and had fun doing it. We then drifted live bait and scored with two bass of about 20 and 30 pounds. It was a good day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/4/02 Fished with Meryl, Bob and their son Philip of Seaview. We did some bottom fishing and caught a nice bunch of porgies. Philip was top gun for the day with the most fish and everyone had a good time. It was a very hot day but enjoyable. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/3/02 Fished with Seymour and Danny of Dunewood. We did some bottom fishing and did well with porgies and triggerfish. We then drifted some live bait and connected with a 35 pound striped bass. Good day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/2/02 Did some bottom fishing today and it was excellent. Caught a nice bunch of porgies with fish over a pound. Did a little live bait fishing and boated a bass of about 20 pounds. Also had fun with some cocktail blues in the morning. A nice mixed bag of fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/26/02 Fished with Seymour today. We tried bass with live bait but no action. Only gave it a short time however. We then scored with two big weakfish about 8 pounds each and a 5 pound fluke on bucktails. It ended up a pretty good day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/20/02 Fished the back bay today. Just jigged bucktails in the deeper backbay channels. Fishing was very good. In three hours I bagged three keeper fluke up to 4 pounds and two weakfish of about 4 pounds. Captain AL Lorenzetti 6/19/02 Fished with Dave, Meka and Jesse of Dunewood. It was a tough day of fishing. The weather was beautiful but the fishing for striped bass was poor. We only had a couple of bluefish chop offs using live bait. The water has gotten warm and the bulk of the big fish have probably moved out into the ocean. If some good bait returns or a little cool spell, they will return. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/13/02 Fished live bait for bass but it was a tough day. "Wind from the East, fish bite the least" was the message of the day. Had one bass about 17 pounds and dropped another. A couple of flounder and that was it. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/11/02 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood. We fished live bait for striped bass. Had 4 fish up to 29 pounds. Kind of a slow pick but fun and a nice day. Also had about 10 nice fat flounder which will taste great on the plate. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/10/02 Fished with Ollie and Will of Dunewood today. It was a beautiful day with some good fish. We caught a few flounder and then fished for striped bass. Ollie and Will scored with three bass to about 30 pounds. We had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/9/02 Fished with Frank De Sousa, his brother Anthony and their buddy Al. We had a good day boating 5 bass to 25 pounds and some big slammer blues. All fish were taken on live bait. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/8/02 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood, Ken Ross and his son Clint of Ocean Beach. We had a good day with the bass. We boated 5 fish up to 25 pounds on live bait. Clint had a ball on his first big fish of his life. Good fun was had by all. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/1/02 Fished with John Dall today. The fishing was not what it was the last two days. Storms rolled through the area last night and messed things up. We did catch 8 bass to 20 pounds on live bait and a weakfish so it was a good day but a disappointment after the last two wild days of fishing. John had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/31/02 Fished with Seymour and Wells. It was another great day. We boated 20 bass to 30 pounds on love bait. Also caught the limit of weakfish from 2 to 4 pounds, a couple of bluefish up to 12 pounds and a 7 pound fluke while jigging bucktails. Great fishing. Lots of people in Dunewood and Fair Harbor have fish on the menu for the weekend. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/30/02 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood. We had a super day, the best so far for the season. 21 striped bass boated, up to 40 pounds, on live bait. Fishing is red hot! Now is the time to do it! Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/25/02 Fished with Seymour and his two grandchildren, Cameron and Jonathan. We had a good time catching 3 bass up to 20 pounds. The kids had a ball, so did I. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/24/02 Fished with Bart Romano, his son Frank and buddy Carl of the Bronx. We had a banner day boating 15 bass to 30 pounds. We also had some weakfish and bluefish to round out the day. Best story is the one that got away. After landing the biggest fish of the day, I put the 30 pound beauty into the fish box. A minute later the fish went ballistic and started thrashing around. The top of the fish box flew open and the fish jumped out and landed on the gunwhale of the boat. I grabbed it by the tail but was no match for the slippery hell bent fish. Over the side it went and made a clean escape. Lucky fish. Bart had caught the fish and didn't seem to mind too much. Everyone was shocked, especially me. Sometimes you eat the fish and sometimes you don't. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/23/02 Fished with Rich Santos of Babylon. Live bait beat up on the bass. We boated 8 fish up to 22 pounds. Lots of action. We left the fish biting. Saw a school of bluefish with weakfish mixed up in the big bay off of West Bayshore. The first time this season that the fish have moved on to the flats. It is about 2 weeks later than normal. 5/22/02 Fished for stripers again with live bait. Lots of fish and hot action. Boated 9 fish up to 25 pounds. Another cold day. The weather is supposed to warm up over the next few days and the real big fish should come back into the bay. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/21/02 Fished bass again today with Seymour. Lots of fish but small. Live bait did the trick. Boated 6 to 20 pounds. Water was cold. The big ones should be back when it warms a little. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/17/02 Fished again with Seymour. Caught a lot of fish but no real big ones today. Had 9 to the boat up to 25 pounds and lots of run-offs and action. Live bait did the trick again. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/16/02 Fished with Seymour on his 27 Grady White. Just splashed the boat in the morning for the new season. Got live bait and fished for bass. It was hot fishing! Boated six fish to 38 pounds. Left them biting. The big fish are here. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/11/02 Fished with Seymour. Flounder fishing was poor. We loaded up with live bait and did the bass routine. We had a good time catching 2 bass up to 18 pounds and dropped a few more. Decided to finish up the day plugging for weakfish. We scored with an 8.5 pound fish taken on a swimming plug. Pretty good fishing on a day that seemed very slow all around. The fish need a little warmer water to turn on. Next week should be just right.
Captian Al Lorenzetti 5/4/2002 Fished with Seymour. Fishing was slow. The water was cold and churned up from all the wind on Friday. We got a few flounder, small bluefish and short bass. Tried weakfishing but didn't catch anything but searobins. It got windy and cold again so we called it a day early. Captain Al Lorenzetti 4/22 -4/26 2002 Fished at Chokoloskee Island in the Everglades of Southwest Florida. I fished with Captain Charles Wright and Bruce Hitchcock of Chokoloskee Charters.com. Tim Smith and I were putting the final touches on our next video "Introduction to Saltwater Fly Fishing" and wanted to add some southern fishing to the project. Captain Charles obliged with some good fishing out in the Gulf for permit and in the Back Country for a mixed bag of southern species. I caught my first permit on the fly and an assortment of other fish including, snook, sea trout, ladyfish and mangrove snapper on the fly. We had a good time fishing and learned a lot. Captain Charles runs a great operation. I recommend him for some quality South Florida fishing. Check out his website at chokoloskeecharters.com. Captain Al Lorenzetti 4/18/2002 Fished the back bay areas early in the morning and found the striped bass feeding on loads of big spearing. Caught about 15 fish up to 12 pounds on the fly rod. Popping flies in dark colors worked best. Real hot fishing. Beautiful day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 4/16/2002 Fished with my son Luke today. It was a beautiful day on the water and the fish were cooperating. We caught 17 keeper flounder in the West Channel and Clam Pond areas. Nothing real big but good fat fish from three quarters of a pound to a pound and a half. There were about a half dozen throwbacks. I chummed heavy and fished sandworms. Got some really fat ones at Augie's Bait and Tackle. Heard radio chatter saying that the mackeral were thick as could be in 60 feet of water just outside Fire Island Inlet. Now is the time to jump on it and get your shark bait. Flounder fishing is also real good. Looks like it could be a great season. The water is really clean. Captain Al Lorenzetti 3/29-4/7 2002 Fished at the Fin And Feathers Inn, Iztapa, Guatemala. Fished aboard the 31 foot Bertram "Classic" with Erik Lorentzen as captain. Len Lapsys and I boated about 30 Pacific Sailfish on fly fishing gear. We raised almost 200 fish in six days of fishing. Len had a blue marlin looking at his fly but he didn't want to bite. I hooked up with and released an estimated 300 pound blue marlin. From what I can find, it is the largest blue marlin ever caught on the fly and probably the largest fish ever caught on a fly. The accomodations at Fin and Feathers are unbeatable and the fishing was fantastic. Captain Al Lorenzetti 3/28/2002 The fishing season is starting today with a little flounder fishing if the weather cooperates. At the opening of the season on March 16 and the week following, the fishing was pretty good to the east off Heckscher State Park. However, the weather turned cold and things slowed down last week. Yesterday was warmer so today may be the day that they bite. The results of the day are in. Tony Mazzara and I caught 5 flounder, all keepers and 2 big skates fishing for a couple of hours near the Babylon Cut. Heavy chum and blood worms did the trick. Augie's bait and Tackle had some nice fresh blood worms.
