| 11/23/2001 Fished for four hours drifting live bait and did not have a touch. I tossed plugs in all the good spots and no takers. Plenty of bait around but no bass. The water is below 50 degrees and I think it is about over for inside fishing. There are probably fish in the ocean and trolling along the beach should be productive but the bay is pretty barren. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/16-18/2001 Went waterfowl hunting at the beach house on Sexton Island for the opening of the 2001/2002 season. Rich Santos, Ken Mearns and Jim Conte were the rest of the crew for three days of fun. We had pretty good gunning during the morning flight on all three beautiful days. We bagged the limit of brant, one goose, a couple of black ducks and a few mergansers. Of course, I brought a couple of fishing rods just in case the hunting was slow and the fishing was good. On Friday after the lunch break, we did a little fishing for bass. It was quite amazing. I plugged a 35 pound bass on a Gibbs popping plug and we had two other fish to 20 pounds on live bait, all in an hour of fishing time. It was a great weekend of fishing and hunting with good buddies. It doesn't get any better!
Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/10/2001 Fished with Seymour and Wells. We had a good day despite a tough wind. We boated 4 bass to 30 pounds on live bait. Had some good action and missed a few. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/8/2001 Fished with Seymour and the fishing was pretty good. We had 6 fish to 22 pounds on live bait. A new school of bass arriving from the east should improve the catch of bigger fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/4/2001 Fished with Rich Arens, his dad Bab and buddy Carlos. We had a good day with 4 bass to 18 pounds on live bait. We missed a few others and had a lot of bluefish chop-offs. Lots of bait outside the inlet. Beautiful weather again. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/3/2001 Fished with Seymour and his buddy David. Fishing was slow but it was a beautiful day. We had one fish on a plug. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/2/2001 Fished with Seymour, Danny and Wells. We caught 6 bass to 20 pounds on live bait. One fish about 20 pounds on a plug. Captain Al Lorenzetti 11/1/2001 Fished with Seymour and had 10 bass to 25 pounds on live bait. No action on the plugs today. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/31/2001 Fished with Seymour. We had 12 bass to 25 pounds on love bait and four or five on plugs to 20 pounds. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/30/2001 Fished with Gary Arnold and his buddy Bob. We had a spectacular day with 22 fish up to 42 pounds on live bait. Pictures will follow in a couple of days. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/27/2001 Fished in a real hard blow form the WNW. Caught two bass of 31 and 32 pounds on live bait. Had three bass on plugs to 20 pounds. The weather is getting colder and the fishing is getting hot. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/22-25/2001 This is a condensed report. Too much fishing time and not enough for updating: 10/22 short trip 3 hours, 4 bass live bait to 25 pounds. 10/23, short trip, 3 hours, 6 bass, live bait to 27 pounds. 4/24, 3 bass to 22 pounds, live bait. 4/25, 3 bass to 22 pounds, 2 plugging, one live bait, dropped two bigger fish, broke leader on one and pulled the hook on another. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/20/2001 Fished with Seymour, Wells and Mark of Dunewood. We had a good day with 6 keeper bass to 20 pounds on live bait. Boat traffic was horrible but we still did well. Lots of fish around. It will only get better for the next couple of weeks. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/19/2001 Fished with Seymour, Danny and Wells fo Dunewood. It was a great day of bass fishing! We boated 11 bass to 35 pounds on live bait. We had a bunch more on and dropped them. Lots of action all day and big fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/18/2001 Fished with John today and had a great day of bass fishing. The wind blew like hell out of the WNW but that didn't stop us or the fish. The water was dirty but we still boated 8 fish in the 20 to 25 pound class on live bait. Lots of action, lots of bait and life around. Its getting real hot! Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/16/2001 Fished on an exploratory mission again. Fishing was excellent. Caught 3 stripers to 25 pounds on live bait and plugged two fish to 15 pounds in the back bay. Lots of bait around and a lot of life in the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/13/2001 Fished with Seymour and Dave of Dunewood. We fished all the spots but not a fish to be found. The boat traffic was so bad that most spots were unfishable. It was out of control. The weather was too nice. We need some real nasty weather to get the fish moving and to thin out the crowd. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/12/2001 Fished with Seymour and Danny of Dunewood. We caught three bass to 20 pounds in the early morning and then the action died. Another beautiful day but slow fishing. We found schools of bunker off Lido beach but no bass on them. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/11/2001 Fished with Lenny of Sun Valley, Idaho and Danny and Gladys from the Hamptons. It was a slow day on the bass front but a beautiful day on the weather side. We caught one bass, 18 pounds on live bait. It was good to be with the crew and all had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/10/2001 Fished with Seymour today in a tough west wind. We caught a couple of fish up to 24 pounds and dropped a couple more, all on live bait. We couldn't get outside into the ocean until the afternoon and then it was quiet. Not a bad day but not great. The weather hurt the fishing for sure. Tomorrow is another day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/9/2001 Fished alone on an exploratory mission and didn't have to explore for very long. The bass are in big time. Lots of bait outside the inlet and lots of fish all around. Caught 10 fish to 35 lbs. and quit with them still on the feed. Unbelievable fishing! Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/7/2001 Fished with Rich Santos for an hour in the morning with heavy duty winds. We hooked up a 20 lb. bass and called it a day. 10/5/2001 Fished with Danny and Seymour of Dunewood. We had a good day catching 4 bass to 22 lb. on live bait. The inlet area was best today and not much in the back bay. The fish that came in on Tuesday must have moved back out. It was another beautiful day on the weather side. A big front is coming in tomorrow and the bass should be back big time when it passes. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/4/2001 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood. We had an excellent day. We drifted live bait and caught 8 striped bass to 20 lb. The weather was perfect and Seymour beat up on the fish with his harness and his broken wrist. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/3/2001 Fished with Jim and John Conte. We drifted live bait and had a good time with the bass. We caught four fish to 22 lb. on live bait. Ebb tide was best. John who is visiting from England had his first bass fishing experience and did pretty well. It was an interesting day fishing on Jim's boat. Dead batteries, rotten net, no live well, no fish cooler etc. but we did well and had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/2/2001 Fished with Tony Mazzara of Tucson, Arizona. We had a great time and the bass are now here in big numbers. We had 8 fish to 22 lb. on live bait. There were fish in every good spot. Lots of action all day. The fall run is now in progress! Tim Smith and Diesel also had some big bass on the Argo. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/28/2001 Fished with Gary Arnold, Kevin and Seymour. We tried every place you could fish for bass but couldn't find a fish. It was a beautiful day but fishless. Such is the way of fishing. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/27/2001 Fished with Seymour. We baited up and looked for bass. It wasn't a great day but we did find the fish. Seymour who broke his wrist was fishing with one arm. I hooked him up with a Penn 113H and belly gimble with shoulder harness. With that set up he could reel without using his left hand. He hooked up and fought the fish with no problem. Seymour boated a 25-pound beauty and dropped a fish in the 30's. Had another run off but overall it was slow even though we had a good day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/22/2001 Fished with Seymour, Wells and Wells' father-in-law Ron of Fair Harbor. We fished live bait and did pretty well. We ended up with a big weakfish, two big bluefish and a keeper bass. All fish were caught on incoming tide. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/18/2001 Fished with Jeff and Dave of Saltaire. We caught a bunch of snappers and drifted them for weaks and blues. It was a slow day and we only caught two big bluefish. The weather was beautiful and it was a good day considering all the grief in the world at this time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/6/2001 Fished with Rich Santos on his new Regulator 23'. We loaded up on live bait and headed offshore looking for mahi. We trolled around the NA buoy but just hooked up with bonito. Spotted a big school of small false albacore and caught a bunch on spinning tackle. We headed back inshore and live lined a couple of big bluefish. We also had the false albacore and spanish mackerel busting water and hooked up with a couple to round the day out. Scotty Leonard was fishing inside also and we hung out around each other looking for the fish. Got a good shot of Scott's 23' Regulator up and running. It was fun and the Regulators performed really well. Good boat, good friends and good fishing. Who has it better? Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/4/2001 Fished with Norman Nixon of Long Island Mechanical and his buddies. We caught a bunch of snappers and drifted them as live bait. We caught one bluefish and dropped 3 or 4 others. Not really good action today. The water was very clean and there was lots of bait but not many fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 9/1/2001 Fished with Seymour, his son Warren and Warren's sons, Cameron and Jonathan. We caught a nice mess of porgies in the Sore Thumb. The kids had a ball and were good fishermen. We then caught a few snappers and drifted them for weakfish and blues. We hooked and landed an 11 pound weakfish. Everyone had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/31/2001 Fished with Seymour, Wells and Danny in the morning. We drifted live bait and only caught 1 weakfish. I picked up Gregor and Jim at noon and we continued to fish but it was slow going. Near the end of the ebb tide we scored big with 10 weakfish and a couple of bluefish. The day ended on a good note and Gregor and Jim got their kicks. That's fishing! Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/30/2001 Fished with Seymour, Wells and Danny of Dunewood. It was one of the best days of fishing in a while. We fished live bait and beat up on the weakfish and bluefish. We boated about 35 fish. Most of the bluefish were released but we kept most of the weakfish as the guys promised a lot of folks at Dunewood that they would have fish for the Labor Day weekend. We dropped a bluefish that I estimate went about 17-pounds. The bluefish were on such a feeding frenzy that they were attacking the weakfish when we were fighting them to the boat. One weakfish was chopped in half by the blues. It was incredible fishing and a very momorable day. The weather was perfect. Overyone really enjoyed themselves. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/29/2001 Fished with Brad Brown of Saltaire. We ran to the NA buoy and did some chumming. It was totally dead. We then trolled for a while and hooked up with a couple of skipjack. We ran back inside the inlet and drifted live bait. The bluefish and weakfish were there and we boated a 9-pound weakfish and a couple of bluefish up to 14-pounds. It was a good day of fishing and the weather was beautiful. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/28/2001 Fished with Gene, Ross and Ross' son Mike of Ocean Beach. We hammered the porgies and seabass in the Sore Thumb and then drifted them for the big ones. We caught a big bluefish and a smaller one and dropped a couple of weakfish. We just couldn't get a break with the weaks. It was a beautiful day and all had a good time especially Mike. Below he holds the big bluefish we caught. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/24/2001 Fished with Tony and his son Jared of Seaview. We caught porgies and seabass in the Sore Thumb. We then tried drifting them live for big fish. Today the fish gods did not smile upon us. We got chopped off by a couple of bluefish but couldn't get a hook into them. We tried a little fluke fishing and got a short. It was a good day anyway and Jared really enjoyed himself. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/23/2001 Fished with Steven and Alissa Crone and their son Max and daughter Lily of Seaview. We caught a bunch of porgies and snappers and then fished them live for big fish. We caught two big blues and a 9 pound weakfish. It was a fun day for all and some nice fishing. Captain Al Lorenzetti
8/22/2001 Fished with Steve Goldstein, his son Luke and father-in law Ron. We hit the ocean for fluke and got a couple of keepers in a short time near the offshore reef. We headed inshore and caught a bunch of snappers and porgies in the thumb. We then live-lined these baits for 3 big weakfish and a big bluefish. We dropped a few more and had a good time. The weather was beautiful and all had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/21/2001 Fished with Lou Barash, his son Zach and daughter Emma. We tried for fluke in the ocean but it was too rough. We came back into the bay and caught a bunch of snappers in the Sore Thumb. We then drifted the snappers for the big fish. We had a big bluefish cut throught the leader just at the boat and pulled the hook on a big weakfish. No fish in the box for the day but we had some thrills. Everyone had fun. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/13/2001 Fished today with Seymour, Steve Goldstein and his buddy Paul. It was a slow day of fishing but we made the best of it. Ended up with a big blue, bonito (sarda sarda, AKA green bonito) and a few short fluke and a short bass. All had a good time.
Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/10/2001 Fished with Lou Levinson and his sons Matt and Scott. We fished in the bay for fluke. We had lots of action but only one keeper out of about 25 fish. We also caught a couple of bluefish. It was a breezy day and hot. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/9/2001 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood today. We had a good catch of ocean fluke with a couple about 4 pounds. We also had a few nice porgies in the Sore Thumb. We fished the same area as yesterday, 60 to 65 feet of water, SSE of the inlet. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/8/2001 Fished with Brad Brown of Saltaire. We hit the ocean for fluke and did pretty well. We ended up with 6 keepers to about 4 pounds. Fishing was best SSE of Fire Island inlet in about 60 feet of water. First we fished SW of the inlet. The water was beautiful and clean and we saw a school of Mahi-Mahi swim under the boat. We tried for them with jigs and had a couple of hits but couldn't hook up. We only caught one fluke in the area so we headed east and found the fish. Also caught a few nice porgies. Hot day! Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/7/2001 Fished with Michael, Rebecca, Sara, Aaron and Daniel of Fair Harbor. What a great group of young people. We fished bottom for porgies. We caught a nice bunch of good sized porgies and a couple of seabass. Today there were a lot of short fish that we released. We also caught a couple of cocktail blues on jigs to round things out. It was very hot but everyone still had a good time. No triggerfish today. Captain Al Lorenzetti 8/4/2001 Fished with Wells and Seymour of Dunewood. We had a great time with jumbo slammer bluefish near the inlet. All fish were caught on light spinning gear and popping plugs. They were awesome fighters and it was a ball. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/28/2001 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood. We hooked up with the biggest kind of bluefish on plugs in the Inlet. All fish 10 to 15 pounds on light spinning gear. Great action and the toughest fish there are in these parts. Good morning of fishing. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/21/2001 Went crabbing with Rich Santos and his son of Babylon. The crabbing is great. We netted about a bushel of crabs in five traps. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/21/2001 Fished with Norman Nixon, Kelly and Pete. We did the bottom fishing thing again and had another great day. We kept about 20 big porgies and about 10 trigger fish. Great fishing and another beautiful day. Pete hooked up with a double header trigger fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/20/2001 Fished with Meryl and Bob Messineo and their son Philip of Seaview and Alexandra and Clint Ross of Ocean Beach who joined us for the trip. We had a fabulous time with bottom fishing. We used clam chum and clam pieces for hook bait. We kept a bucket of big porgies, a couple of seabass and a half dozen trigger fish. The kids had a ball and so did the adults. The weather was also beautiful. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/16/2001 Fished with Rich Forrester and his son Jason. We chummed bluefish in the bay and caught a bunch but no big ones today. We then headed out to the ocean for fluke and didn't do anything but catch skates. There was no wind and no drift. A beautiful day to be on the water but not the best for fishing. We finished up at Ocean Bay Park and got a small keeper weakfish and that was the day. It was fun even though the fishing was slow. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/14/2001 Fished with Gary and his son Gregory of Saltaire. We fished on Gary's beautiful 35 foot Tiara. We headed for the ocean looking for fluke but found mostly skates. We did get one keeper fluke which Gregory fought to the boat. It was a beautiful day on the water and we had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/13/2001 Fished with John, Steve and Annie of Kismet. We did the bluefish chumming act trying to repeat yesterdays good fortune and we succeeded. We had non-stop action for four hours. Lots of fish caught and many missed or broken off. Most fish were 7 pounds or more with the big fish going 12 pounds. It was also a beautiful day. Much fun was had by all. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/12/2001 Fished with Seymour and his son Mark of Dunewood. We beat up on the bluefish while chumming in the bay. We had over 30 fish with about half of them running between 7 and 11 pounds. All were taken using light bait-casting outfits. It was a lot of fun with lots of action and spectacular leaping bluefish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/7/2001 Fished with Seymour and his buddies Steve and Dick of Dunewood. We fished on Seymour's new 26 foot Grady White Chase center console. The ocean was flat in the morning so we decided to fluke fish in deep water. We went west first and caught only skates and a small fluke. We then headed east and fished in the vicinity of the offshore reef. We bagged a half dozen quality fluke up to 7-pounds. Good fishing and a great day all around. Everyone had a good time. The Grady runs real well even in a rough chop which we had at the end of the day. Steve caught the two biggest fish on a secret rig. He had a good time and you can tell by the look on his smiling face. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/6/2001 Fished with Seymour, Danny and Jim of Dunewood. It was a tough day with lots of wind out of the Northwest. Offshore was unfishable so we had to fish in the inlet and bay. It was a tough pick through all the little fluke but we did manage three keeper fluke. No signs of weakfish today either. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/5/2001 Fished with Rich Santos and his son Nick of Babylon. We hit the weakfish in the morning by the Lighthouse. It was hot action with the weaks under the blues. We also jigged a good size fluke and released a bunch of blues. All fish taken on white bucktails. Captain Al Lorenzetti 7/3/2001 Fished a half day with Ken Ross of Ocean Beach. We had a good time with the fluke in the ocean. I found the fish to the southwest. All nice fish to 4-pounds. A couple of blues and a weakfish rounded out the catch. The weather was beautiful. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/28/2001 Fished with Seymour after taking a short vacation. We caught good fluke to the Southwest of Fire Island Inlet. 60 to 65 feet of water was best. Fish to 4 pounds. Small bluefish by the inlet in the early morning. Had about 8 before moving on. Beautiful warm day. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/21/2001 Fished in the morning. Caught a few fat flounder near the inlet. Everything else was real quiet. Nasty day with the wind out of the east and blowing. The water is really discolored with "brown tide" algae. Lots of small bluefish running around but that is about it. The big bass seem to have moved out for the time being. When the water cleans up the fishing action should heat up again. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/14/2001 Me and Seymour again for a short morning trip. Different day today than yesterday. Only bluefish today. The inlet and bay are paved with them. A lot of fun on light tackle. Other than the bluefish, all was quiet. I think they ate everything in the bay. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/13/2001 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood. The action was fast and furious. Weakfish and bluefish non stop. Big fish to 9 pounds. Early in the morning on the ebb tide along the South Beach. The rest of the day was quiet but the morning made up for it. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/12 2001 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood. We did an afternoon half day for bass. Ended up with a fish about 20 pounds on live bait. Could have caught all the bluefish you wanted. It was a fun afternoon. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/10/2001 Fished with Rich Santos of Babylon. We fished a couple of hours and Rich hooked up with a nice 24 pound bass on live bait. Boat traffic was terrible but fishing was good. The water seems to be cleaning up a bit. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/9/2001 Fished with Seymour, Jim and Greg of Dunewood. It was a busy day on the water with lots of boat traffic but we managed to have a successful day in spite of it. We ended up with 10 bass up to 18 pounds taken on live bait. There was lots of action and everyone had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/8/2001 Fished with Seymour and Danny of Dunewood. As usual with these guys, we beat up on the fish. I guess you might call it luck but they are good fishermen. We ended up with 12 bass to 22 pounds, a half dozen seabass and a fluke. It was a beautiful day on the weather side and the fishing was excellent. Live bait did the bass real good. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/7/2001 Fished with Bart Romano, his son Frank and good buddy Carl. We made a day of it but the fishing was not great. The fish moved and I couldn't figure it out till late in the day. We ended up with two bass to 17 pounds, a few bluefish and a fluke. It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of laughs. Everyone had a good time. Live bait worked on the bass. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/5/2001 Fished the morning top of the flood and start of the ebb. Flounder action was good. I had a dozen fish up to 2 pounds. I then fished for striped bass with live bait and had a lot of fun with 4 fish up to 20 pounds. Scott Leonard was in on the fish also fishing with Mike Andriani and Dick Orlandi. Below is a shot of Scott Landing a nice bass. He finished the day with a triple header. Good weather and the fishing was excellent. Captain Al Lorenzetti 6/1/2001 Fished with Gary Arnold and Kevin Conzone. We did the live bait striped bass thing and had a very good day with 8 fish up to 24 pounds and a weakfish. It was a beautiful day with little wind. A real pleasure to be on the water. Caaptain Al Lorenzetti 5/31/2001 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood. Seymour is rapidly using up his gift certificate for fishing trips and having a great time. We had a good day fishing live bait for bass. We had 6 stripers to 22 pounds. Good action on a very windy day. It was fun. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/29/2001 Fished for flounder in the Sore Thumb. Had a pretty good morning catching 10 fish in a couple of hours. Nothing really big but all nice fish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/25/2001 Fished with Frank DeSousa, Ed Zelles and Drew DeMarco. We had tough weather conditions but all were tough and wanted to fish. The weather was lousy but the fishing was good. We had two bass to 21 pounds, dropped a couple of others. Flounder fishing was pretty good with about 15 fish to 2.5 pounds. 7 fine eating blowfish rounded out the day. Everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a good day fishing on a lousy day. That's the way it is sometimes. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/24/2001 Fished on an exploratory mission. Found some bunker and fished them for bass. Had four bass to 20 pounds. A few flounder to 2.8 pounds. A good day of fishing for only a few hours. Tomorrow we will put the knowledge to work. 5/19/2001 Fished with Seymour and Wells of Dunewood again. We fished a half day and hammered the bass again. We limited out with fish to 15 pounds, all taken on swimming plugs near the inlet. We released many fish. We also had a good weakfish of about 9 pounds and all the bluefish you could catch. Wells had a double header bass on the same plug. One fish on each hook. They were both keepers. His favorite plug got beat up. Wells was sad about that but had a great time fighting both fish at once. In the picture below, Seymour is netting the double for Wells. Another excellent day of fishing and they weather also turned out quite nice for a change. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/18/2001 Fished with Seymour, Danny and Wells of Dunewood, Fire Island. We had a great day of fishing but the weather was tough. In the morning the bass were thick at the inlet. We caught about a dozen big fish on light spinning tackle with swimming plugs. It doesn't get any better. Fish up to 16 pounds on twelve pound test on light spinning gear in the tough currents of the inlet. We had a triple on at one time with lines all wrapped around each other and still managed to boat all three fish. We limited out with all fish between 35 and 36 inches. We then caught a few flounder and had some fun with that. We also hit some schools of bluefish and had fish up to 12 pounds. The weakfish scene was quiet today. We tried some places but they weren't there. I think they all moved out onto the flats and are on the spawn. The cold snap probably put them down for a couple of days. Had them yesterday but not today. They call it fishing and not catching and sometimes that is the way it goes. It was a good day however and all had fun.
Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/17/2001 Kicked butt today on all the fish. All the striped bass you could catch to 15 pounds in the morning on swimming plugs. Half a dozen flounder to 2 pounds. On the start of incoming tide in the back bay off West Island, hit the weakfish with swimming plugs and two fish on the fly. One is a world record but only by about 5 ounces. I will wait till I beat it by a pound. It is the best light tackle fishing I have seen in years. There are fish all over the bay. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/12/2001 Fished with Seymour and Danny of Dunewood. Another excellent day of fishing. 20 or more bluefish from 3 to 8 pounds, 6 weakfish up to 9 pounds, and a few flounder up to 2 pounds. Good action all day on tins, plugs and bucktails. All the action is in the back bay areas. Birds are working the schools of fish. Weakfish are mixed in with the bluefish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/11/2001 Fished with Seymour of Dunewood. Another excellent day of fishing. We caught loads of bluefish which we released. We also had three good weakfish from 7 to 9 pounds and a whole bunch of schoolie bass from 3 to 8 pounds. We gave the flounder a shot and caught a few with one tipping the scales at about 3 pounds. A great day of fishing. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/10/2001 Fished with Tony Mazzara again and had a ball. Loads of bass, bluefish and weakfish. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/9/2001 Fished the back bay in the morning. All the bass you could catch and a few big blues mixed in. Caught them on fly tackle using small poppers and Clouser Minnows. Swimming plugs on light spin tackle were also deadly. Caught over 30 fish between 3 and 8 pounds. Real hot fishing. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/8/2001 Fished with Tony Mazzara again today. We hit another bass blitz in the back bay in the morning. We boated about 8 fish up to 34 inches and about 14 pounds. We kept one fish. We then flounder fished and had 11 really nice fish up to 2 pounds. It was cool all day but the wind finally let up. We had fun. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/7/2001 Fished the Connetquot River with Bruce Morabito. We hit two beats that were loaded with fish. Basically we caught fish on almost every cast all morning from 7 till 11 am. I got a nice rainbow of about 4-pounds and Bruce had a nice brown of about 3-pounds that we kept. We released many other big fish. It was an excellent day of fishing. It was cool however for this time of year. Streamers and Nymphs did the job on the fish Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/6/3001 Fished with my old High School buddy Tony Mazzara from Tucson, Arizona. We got a weakfish and a couple of fluke. We also hit a blitz of school bass in the back bay. It was a good day of fishing but the weather was horrible. Wind out of the east at 20 to 25 mph and very cool. We survived to tell about it. Captain Al Lorenzetti 5/5/2001 Fished with John Dall today. We were in the Surfside 3 Weakfish Contest. We caught two weakfish but they were smaller than the 10th place fish so we did not weigh them. They were about 5-6 pounds. Caught about a hundred sea-robbins. It was a tough day weather wise. Lots of wind out of the North. Both fish fell to bucktails tipped with worms. It was a good day anyway. Captain Al Lorenzetti 4/25/2001 The school bass are in. I fished the backbay areas today in the afternoon for a couple of hours and had two fish. One about 2 pounds and the other about 5 pounds. Both were caught on a bucktail on the ebbing tide. Captain Al Lorenzetti 4/9/2001 Fished Connetquot River again with Bruce Morabito and the Idle Hour Fly Fishers Club. We had a good day catching a whole bunch of mostly rainbow trout including some "sea run" beauties and a few brookies. The weather was great, a little misty in the morning and then bright sun and warm by noon. The main pond is loaded with fish. Tim Smith shot some video and it will be posted as a webcast on skimmeroutdoors.com in a few days. Captain Al Lorenzetti 4/5/2001 Fished today for two hours and had five flounder with one throw back. Worked the areas around Babylon in the back bay. Things have picked up condiderably with a warm day. Lots of chum and wait them out. If you build it they will come. Captain Al Lorenzetti 3/29/2001 Fished the Shinnecock Canal with Ken Mearns, Jim and John Conte. It was cold and windy. The fishing was slow to non existent. We saw a few fish caught but we got nothing but fresh air. The fishing was very good in the Canal last week but died this week. There was hardly a spot to fish. Must have been a hundred people there on a weekday. It was still a day outdoors which was fun. We had a lot of laughs. We went to Spicey's in Riverhead for lunch and the ribs were outstanding. We then headed for the Peconic River Sportsman's Club and shot some 3-D archery. Check the Hunt & Shoot page for a picture. Captain Al Lorenzetti 3/21/2001 Fished for flounder for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Worked a couple of areas around Babylon and Lindenhurst and didn't catch a thing. The water is still very cold. I think we need to have a few warm days to get things started. Captain Al Lorenzetti 3/12/2001 Fished the Connetquot River again. I was the invited guest of Bruce Morabito and the Idle Hour Fly Fishers Club. This group does a lot to support the efforts for fly-fishing at the Connetquot River State Park and Preserve. I was able as an invited guest to seen the hatchery in operation. I was also allowed to visit all the fishing sites which are called "beats." Bruce and I fished most of the sites and had a ball with brook, rainbow and brown trout. We also caught a few "steelhead." The Casual Dress Nymph was the hot fly for the day. We landed many fish from 2 to well over 3-pounds. Beautiful weather also helped to make it a great day.
Captain Al Lorenzetti 3/8/2001 Fished the Connetquot River with Jim Conte. We had a ball. Lots of big rainbow trout and a few brookies. It was a beautiful day. No wind, lots of sun and warming temperatures. We even saw a small hatch take place about 11 am. We used streamers and nymphs. Both worked very well. The rainbow streamer seemed to do best. The fish were between 2 and 4 pounds. Real good fighters.
