Skimmer Outdoors began in 1992 producing instructional fishing videos. They were an instant hit with the fishing community and continue to sell very well. Skimmer outdoors began in 1997 with the launch of our website. Once again it was an instant hit for those that had Internet availability in those early years. Today www.skimmeroutdoors.com is “Go To” website within the fishing community. Our interactive fishing blog is growing at an alarming pace allowing our followers to upload their own daily prized catch and encouraged releases. We also have a very successful e-commerce store for our followers to purchase the “Captain AL custom bait rigs” that have proven to be unmatched for artificial and live bait fishing along with many other products. In recent years Capt. Rich Santos a long time IGFA Certified Capt./Guide has joined the team and has become an integral part of the Skimmer outdoors. Outdoor writer and revered columnist Captain Al Lorenzetti (Senior Active member OWAA) and Captain Rich Santos are both USCG licensed and NYS marine fisheries permitted charter boats operating out of Babylon, N.Y. fishing in the Fire Island area. Both their boats are magnificently customized and restored 1979 23-foot Mako center consoles powered with Mercury Opti Max 225 Pro XS outboards. Skimmer Outdoors has long been for many years and is still currently are well-respected members in good standing of the “Mercury Pro Team Staff” along with many other fishing related companies. Capt. Al and Capt. Rich are both highly revered professional captains in the northeast and promote exclusively Navico/Lowrance Electronics and West Marine related products along with Top of Line fishing equipment supplied by Trophy Tackle and links from the skimmeroutdoors.com website.
Captain Al, Captain Rich and renowned videographer and staff member of “The Fisherman Magazine” Tim C. Smith produce many video pieces regarding fishing news, the best electronics and fishing products to use as well as activities, tournaments and fishing techniques. Many of theses videos are now posted on YouTube and are typically sold at the end of our lectures and seminars.
In 2014 another first for the Skimmer Outdoors.com, Tim C. Smith documented and reported on an eighteen day long range tuna trip aboard the Excel out of San Diego. Tim produced daily video packages on the boat and filed the day’s story through the vessel’s satellite Internet connection in real time; this was no easy task 650 miles out in the Pacific. For Tim’s efforts he won the “Outdoor Writers of America Excellence” in craft award for best fishing video for 2014. Captain Al, Captain Rich and, Videographer Tim C. Smith all work together as a team with their charters, fishing and, instructional activities as well as hosting many fishing seminars.
