Fire Island Inlet

Today Billy and I started the day off early fishing in the Ocean
Beach area for weakfish. We found plenty of action with mostly small
fish to 5.5 lbs. Rubber imitation sand worm in motor oil color with a
¾ oz head was the hot bait. I was also aware of a large number of king
fish inside the inlet and we took some time out to gather them as Bass
bait. Well that work real well and we were able to catch 5 bass to
24lbs on the outgoing tide. Bunker schools were still sitting just
outside the inlet and were be harassed but we were no able to score
here.

Headed out after work, tried plugging the incoming, couldn't raise a fish, water was dirty even tried a rattle plug. Picked up friends at captree and caught a bunch of blues by the wreck buoy. Tried for some weakfish near West Island and Kismet but to no avail. Next drifted some live eels and connected with 2 Bass around 15lbs on the outgoing. Here is my friend Anthony with a 35 inch 15lb Bass. Still waiting for water to clean up, hopefully the big boys are on the way..

Fishing Report
Headed out early today on the boat looking for some fluke and maybe a bass heavy slip gut and no luck on the way home saw the birds working and switched to a diamond jig. Good eating size blues on every cast kept my limit saved a few for myself and donated the rest to the Am Vets hall in Bay Shore a great bunch of guys and I'm sure they will have a great fish fry tonight all blues 2-4 lb avg. great day on the water despite no bass or fluke!

 Fire Island Inlet
The Bunker schools have been sitting just outside the inlet at the whistle buoy for a couple of days now and there has been no real action. So Billy and I decided to sneak out today at first light and see if that would work. Nadda we work hard to snag 8 pieces and not a touch so we ran them into the inlet and tried our favorite spots and
did produce 5 fish but they were all small as you can see. The biggest may have gone 20lbs, if I kept my thumb on the scale. So far the spring has been a bust no big fish yet. There are weakfish to be had on sandworms but they too are small 2 to 5 lbs.

Kathy was fishing south of Gilgo in 55' of water when she thought she was hooked up to another Dogfish. When she was able to see the fish she screamed "O MY GOD", it turned out to be a 25.5" Fluke tipping the scale at 7 pounds. The Fluke fell for a Fluke Belly and Spearing combo.

North Fork, L.I.
Today Billy and I went fluking out in Greenport we did manage our
limit of fluke, hey which now is 4 a man (nice) and had about a total
of 35 fish total. The day was cold a raw and all the keepers just made
minim limit. But no slip gut and super clean water. Friday I may
return to the North Fork or head back to Jamaica Bay were the fish
have been mostly small bass on live bunker. I have been tracking the
big girls and some 40-50 fish are starting to show .Hopefully they
will be here soon.

Fishing Report
Headed out after work, went to a favorite rip line to catch the last of the incoming. Managed one Bass (10lbs) on a plug. Picked up some friends at captree and switched to throwing bass assassins and storm shads. We boated 9 Bass up to 36 inches and lost a few. Windy and cold, another note, my friend Brian casted one of my rods and reel into the bay lol... Great night, happy to get the first Bass of the season... Rich

Orient Point 11/27/11

Although we knew of the Bass bite on herring at Montauk, and
fishing reports from Orient Point hard to come by, George Yurcak and
myself decided to take our chances and try Blackfishing some of my
favorite spots off Fishers Island. There is just something I love about
the North fork and with favorable weather conditions it just seem to
be the right thing to do. Well we crushed the Blackfish with fish over
7lbs and many in the 4lb range George and I , culling out smaller
fish, had no trouble limited out.The ride back home from Fishers Island
threw the Race and past Plum gut was a pleasure and left both of use
with memories we will keep for many years to come.
